Donald Briest, 86, of Gaylord, died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at his daughter 's home in rural Nicollet. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at American Lutheran Church, Gaylord, with burial in Gaylord Municipal Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until noon and 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Egesdal Funeral Home, Gaylord, is in charge of arrangements. He is survived by his wife Lenora; daughter Marjorie and husband Garfield Eckberg of rural Nicollet; son Roger and wife Marti of Eden Prairie; brother Verner and wife Ella of Gaylord; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Roy, Erwin, Wallace, August, and Percy; and sisters, Mayme Schnackenberg and Gertrude Briest. He was born Nov. 26, 1913 in Sibley Township, to August and Emma (Wendelschaefer) Briest. He married Lenora Bierstedt on Sept. 4, 1937 in Gaylord. He farmed in Sibley Township until 1977 when they moved to Gaylord. He was a member of American Lutheran Church, Gaylord. Bertha Ann Datwyler, 81, of Tracy, formerly of Milroy, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at Tracy Hospital. Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Milroy, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the church, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, was in charge of arrangements. She is survived by her children, Donna Jean McDonough and husband Larry of Inver Grove Heights, Tom and wife Barbara of Shakopee, Jerold and wife Susie of Milroy, and Brenda Butler and husband Laslie of Vesta; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her her parents; husband; brothers, Mathias and Ray; and sisters, Marcella and Mary. She was born March 28, 1919 on a farm in New Avon Township, Redwood County, to Anton and Barbara (Schottenbauer) Thomas. She attended District 101 country school. She married Brainerd Datwyler on June 1, 1948 in Milroy. They lived on a farm in Westline Township for 48 years, farming until 1973. She then bought the grocery store in Milroy, which the couple ran together until 1987, when they retired. After Brainerd died in 1996, she moved to O'Brien Court in Tracy, where she lived at the time of her death. She was active in the Milroy Legion Auxiliary. Nick Haspert, 88, of Hector, died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at Buffalo Lake Health Care Center. Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church, Hector, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Monday at the church. He is survived by his wife Everald; children, Jaylene of Chanhassen and Thomas of Aitkin; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step- great-grandchildren; brother Joseph and wife Elaine of Buffalo Lake; and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Barbara Eckerman and Katherine Brown; and brothers, John and Jacob. He was born Aug. 21, 1911 in Wamago, Kansas, to Folden and Anna Marie (Schneider) Haspert. He moved to the Buffalo Lake-Hector area in 1930 and farmed with his parents. He was inducted into the Army, where he served during World War II. he was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge and received a purple heart. He returned to the Hector area and started Fairway Construction with Myrle Sing and Howard Musil. he also started the Service Implement Company, Hector. He married Everald A. Sing on June 28, 1938 in Hector. The couple lived in Hector. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Hector, and a 50-year member of the Hector American Legion. Darlene Severson, 61, of Lamberton, formerly of Walnut Grove and New Ulm, died Friday, June 16, 2000 at Valley View Manor, Lamberton. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, Lamberton, with burial in Walnut Grove City Cemetery. Visitation is 8-10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. She is survived by her sister Judy Dallenbach and husband Dennis of Walnut Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilman and Esther Severson. She was born Nov. 16, 1938 in Tracy, to Hilman and Esther (Frank) Severson. She grew up on a farm near Walnut Grove and attended school in Walnut Grove. After graduating from high school, she sang in a country western band for a few years. She married Darwin Drill and the couple made their home near Walnut Grove. She later moved to New Ulm where she lived for many years. She moved to Lamberton in 1995.
