Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax, with burial in the church cemetery in Fairfax. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Fairfax Honor Guard. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax and one hour prior to services at the church. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Ardella of Fairfax; sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Judy of Danube, Randy and Dorothy of Hector, and Bruce and Wanda of Stewart; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one step granddaughter and two step great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna Kremer of Watertown, S.D., Beatrice and Ray Koester of Glencoe, Marilyn and Myron Bandow, Barb and Ronald Rieke, all of Gibbon, and Evelyn Herschman of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Herbert "Herb" and Betty of Waconia, Leigh and Marion of Clements, Fredrick "Fritz" and Lorraine of Avon, and Edward and Verona of New Hope. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alma Duenow; and brothers, Otto, Jerry, Bill, and Dan; and brother, Herman, in infancy. He was born Feb. 17, 1913 in Henry, S.D., to Edward and Mabel (Jaehn) Lentz. He attended country school in Henry. He served in the Army from Jan. 12, 1942 until Nov. 16, 1945, in the Pacific Theatre. He worked in general carpentry, building barracks, and general furniture. He also worked in the Conservation Corp Camps. He married Ardella Hopp on Oct.12, 1948, in Gibbon. After marriage he worked as a hired farm hand in the rural Fairfax area, and later for the John Deere Dealership in Fairfax. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Evelyn C. Olson, 95, formerly of rural Gibbon, died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon, with burial in the Clear Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Cornish Township, Sibley County. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at church. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon is in charge of the arrangements. She is survived by her nieces, Eva Falkanger of Minneapolis, Margie Halvorson of St. Peter, Marilyn Messner of Gibbon, and Karen Sommers of Winthrop; nephews, Chuck Lind of Winthrop, Donald Lind of Columbus, Ohio, Mark Lind of Burnsville, Dean Lind of Henderson, Gary Olson and Mike Olson, both of Winthrop, and Dennis Kraft and Douglas Kraft, both of International Falls. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elliot on Aug. 16, 1981; four sisters; and a brother. She was born on June 15, 1906 in Forest Township, Rice County, to John and Jennie (Oxendale) Person. She married Elliot W. Olson on June 3, 1939. After marriage they lived in rural Gibbon where she worked as a clerk in the Gibbon Hardware Store and was a homemaker. Evelyn was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon and was a member of the Ladies Aid. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon and the Clear Lake Lutheran Cemetery Fund. Harold Owens, 81, of rural Mankato, died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Mapleton Community Home. Services will be 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Mankato Mortuary, with burial in Jerusalem Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mapleton Community Home. He is survived by his wife, Dolly; sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Amy of rural Mankato, Dennis and Susan of St Clair, Don and Penny of rural Lake Crystal, and Dean and Ardith Anderson of Lake Crystal; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was born Sept. 27, 1919 on the family farm in Judson Township, Blue Earth County, to Evan and Mary (Griffith) Owens. He married Dolly Pongratz in the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. He lived in rural Mankato all his life, the third generation of a century farm. He was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church of Mankato. He was a member of the Mankato Jaycees and the Moose Lodge in Mankato. Dorothy (Mrs. Les) Shellum, 71, of 526 N. Garden St., New Ulm, died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at her home. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church. She is survived by her husband, Lester, of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Dave Kumm of Fairmont, and Cay and Jorge Gonzalez of Mexico City, Mexico; son and daughter-in-law, Curt and Jane Shellum of Rochester; eight grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Harris Buboltz of Hutchinson, Vercille and Dale Class of New Ulm, Burnell and Eddie Osberg of Courtland, and Burnett and Frank Pearse of New Ulm; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Imelda Havemeier of New Ulm, and Dennis and Bonnie Havemeier of Cokato; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Havemeier of Lakeville, and Lorna Havemeier of rural Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sharon, in infancy; and brothers, Clarence Havemeier, Paul Havemeier, Jr., and Jerome Havemeier. She was born on Dec. 15, 1929 in New Ulm to Paul and Mary (Henge) Havemeier. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School in Courtland Township, Nicollet County and Nicollet High School in Nicollet. She married Lester Shellum on June 17, 1948 at the Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Church in Courtland. After marriage they lived in New Ulm for a year before moving to Fairmont in which they lived for 14 1/2 years. They then moved to Jackson where they lived for 28 years. She worked in the Jackson Hospital in Jackson as a physical therapy assistant for 17 years. For over 30 years she had a home cake business. In 1992 they retired in New Ulm. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm and was active in the choir and church circle. Ellen Burger, 93, of Springfield, died Saturday, June 23 at Springfield Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Acacia Park Cemetery Chapel, Mendota Heights, with burial in Acacia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the cemetery chapel. Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, is in charge of arrangements. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara; her husband Royle in 1967; and sisters, Dorothea Seder, Mae Schoch and Juanita Berryman. She was born on Oct. 2, 1907 in St. Paul to John C. and Clara L. (Smith) Zehnder. She taught high school in Comfrey, Little Falls and Harmony. She married Royle M. Burger on June 11, 1938, in Inver Grove Heights. The couple later moved to Deltan Township near Comfrey where they lived for many years. She was a life member of Mounds Park United Methodist Church. She moved to St. John Lutheran Home in 1995. Lester Prodoehl, 90, of Redwood Falls, died on Sunday, June 24, 2001 at the Redwood Area Hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in Danube Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home, Redwood Falls and one hour prior to services at the church. He is survived by his wife Viola of Redwood Falls; sister Ethel Herzig of Osseo; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Willard and Herb; and sister Rose Fluck. He was born on Feb. 17, 1911 in Flora Township, Renville County to John and Lena (Nickle) Prodoehl. He attended rural Renville country schools. He worked at local creameries. He married Viola Oelke on Nov. 26, 1936, at the Middle Creek Parsonage. They lived in Redwood Falls and he worked for the Model Dairy for a short time. They then moved to Renville, Minnesota where he worked for the Coop Creamery from 1936 to 1947. In 1947 they returned to Redwood Falls and Les worked at the Ganrud Creamery until retiring in the late 1960's. He worked at the United Methodist Church as custodian for eight years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Redwood Falls, and a former member of the Middle Creek United Methodist Church. He was active in the Senior Citizens in Redwood Falls. Grace Karels, 82 of Lake Crystal died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at the Lake Crystal Health Care Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Crystal, with burial in the Lake Crystal Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour prior to services at church. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, John and Jaynne of North Mankato, James of Nicollet, Maurice and Sandy of Lake Crystal, Duane and Rhonda of North Mankato, Mark and Marcia of Lake Crystal, Dwight and Cindy of Waseca, Loren and Robin of Butternut, Scott and Jan of Mankato; daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Frank Wiechert of Lake Crystal; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Lamont and Leta Johnson of Swea City, Iowa; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Don Buckholtz of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Lillian Johnson of Fairmont, and Celesta Johnson of Swea City, Iowa; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Karl; an infant child; brothers, Ervin, Chuck, Paul, Fred, and Karl; and sisters, Jesse and Vera. She was born on Aug, 8, 1918, in Ledyard, Iowa, to Gerald and Bertha (Welp) Johnson. She grew up and attended country school in the Ledyard area. She married Karl Karels on Feb. 19,1944, in Swea City, Iowa. They moved to Lake Crystal in 1961. Justin Kramer, 19, of Hector, died Saturday, June 23, 2001 due to injuries in an automobile accident. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Hector with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to services at the church. He is survived by his parents, Mike and Rhonda Kramer of Hector; sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Wade Drew, of Arlington; grandmother Lucy Kramer of Bird Island; grandfather LeRoy Willey, of Bird Island; great-grandmother Veronica Willey of Bird Island; great-grandfather Carl Olinger, of Lake Elmo; and by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Frank Kramer; grandmother Pat Willey; great-grandmother Margie Olinger; great-grandfather Walter Willey, and cousin Karla Willey. He was born Oct. 22, 1981, in Olivia, to Mike and Rhonda (Willey) Kramer. He grew up in the Hector area and graduated from Buffalo Lake - Hector High School in 2000. He had completed one year in the carpentry program at Ridgewater College in Willmar. He participated in Boy Scouts, 4H, FFA, and volleyball cheerleading. eng
