Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 pm Monday at the funeral home. A complete obituary will appear in the Sunday edition of The Journal. Lillian Brand, 67, of Hanska died Friday morning, June 28, 2002 at the Madelia Community Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church in Searles. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday and 7 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Lillian Agnes Slattery, the daughter of Edward and Odelia (Boland) Slattery, was born Oct. 24,1934 in Chillicothe, MO. She spent her youth in Marshall, MO and graduated from Mercy Academy in 1952. She studied business at Ursuline College in Paola, KS, receiving an Associate in Arts degree. She moved to Alaska in 1954, working as a secretary for the Polaris Air Force Base. She was united in marriage to Eugene Brand on May 30, 1955 at Fairbanks. They moved to Minnesota in 1960 and a year later to Denver, CO. In 1974, the family moved to rural Hanska. She worked in the Holy Trinity Middle School library, was a copywriter for KNUJ Radio, and later worked at the Petron Family Chiropractic Clinic, all in New Ulm. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Searles, an MRCI volunteer, and had worked for Ampride in Hanska, Survivors include daughters, Margaret Graham and her husband Wesley of Cedaredge, CO, Cecile Brisnehan and her husband Robert of Indianapolis, IN, Bonita Brand of New Ulm, Jeanine Brand and her husband Al Nankivel of Bagley, sons, Ted Brand and his wife Lornell of St. Paul, Steve Brand and his wife Amber of Oakdale, Paul Brand and his wife Sarah of Falcon Heights; eight grandchildren; former husband, Gene Brand of Hanska; brothers, Clarence Slattery and his wife Adeline of Warrensburg, MO, Donald Slattery of Joplin, MO, Patrick Slattery and his wife Fay of Lee Summit, MO; sisters, Marcella Raulie and her husband Paul of Excelsior Springs, MO, Mary Halverson of Sacramento, CA; brothers-inlaw, James Brand and his wife Doris of St. Cloud, William Anthony Brand and his wife Carol of Foley; sisters-in-law, Beata Chute of St. Joseph, Sister Bonita Brand, S.L.W. of Chicago, Celine Siira and her husband Eino of Sperryville, VA; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Samuel James Brand, and two brothers, Kenneth and Jerome Slattery. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Catholic Church Capital Campaign Fund. Emma M. Gewerth, 93, formerly of New Ulm, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at the Augustana Home in Hastings. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 1, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of service at the funeral home on Monday. A complete obituary will appear in the Sunday edition of The Journal. Elaine Hagg, 81, of 31 Circuit Drive in New Ulm died Friday, June 28, 2002 at her home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 1, at the United Church of Christ in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the church prior to the service. A complete obituary will appear in the Sunday edition of The Journal Helen E. Johnson, 79, of Morgan died Friday, June 29, 2002 Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center-Redwood Falls. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 1, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Morgan, with burial in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Morgan. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Morgan, with a 4:30 p.m. Rosary by St. Anne's CCW and a 7:30 p.m. parish prayer service. She is survived by her children, Larry Johnson of Redwood Falls, Dean Johnson of Austin, Texas, Janell Olson of Willmar. Mary Steinhaus of Redwood Falls/Morgan; and eight grandchildren. She was born Aug. 7, 1922 in Springfield to Peter and Bertha Wenisch. Wallace R. "Wally" Pedersen, 83, of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Buffalo Hospital in Buffalo, Minn. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery, Veterans Memorial Garden Section, Sleepy Eye. Military rites will be provided by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, June 30, and 7:30-9 a.m. on Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. Wally is survived by his wife, Dorothy Pedersen of Sleepy Eye; a son, Wade Pedersen of Sleepy Eye; step-sons, Dillon Olson of Clear Lake, Iowa, Donnie Olson of Andover, and Dennis Olson of Maple Lake; sisters, Phyllis Undseth of Orlando, Fla. and Marilyn Dahl of Coon Rapids; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was born on March 4, 1919 in Hope, N.D. to Fred and Marie (Madsen) Pedersen. He served in the United States Navy for four years during World War II. Brenda Swenson, 46, of the Jeffers and Lamberton areas, died Friday, June 28, 2002 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2 at Highwater Lutheran Church, rural Lamberton with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2002 at Anderson-Schmidt-LaCanne Funeral Home, Jeffers and Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
