Orlean Hass, 67, of Winthrop, died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Home in Winthrop. Services are 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dryden Township, Mountville, rural Gaylord, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Tuesday; and continues 7:30-8 a.m., Wednesday, at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop and also one hour before the service at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:45 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral chapel. Ila A. Modlin, 82, of St. Paul and formerly of New Ulm, died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at the Lyngblomsten Care Center in St. Paul. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be 9 - 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Ila is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Terry Sorenson of Eagan; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and by a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Laura Richter of New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton Modlin on April 28, 2000; and by her sister, Alice Steinhaus. Ila was born April 23, 1921, in New Ulm to Clarence and Irma (Langhoff) Richter. She attended New Ulm Public Schools. She was united in marriage with Clayton Modlin on March 9, 1940, in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm for a brief time and then moved to Grundy Center, Iowa. They then moved to Albert Lea where she worked for Wilson's Foods for 25 years until her retirement. They moved to Roberd's Lake in the early '80s near Faribault and then to Farmington in August of 1999. Ila loved to cook for family and friends. She and her husband enjoyed traveling. They wintered in McAllen, Texas. She was a member of the 1st Lutheran Church in Faribault. Ryan Nelson , 24, of 510 Sixth South St. in New Ulm, died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at New Ulm Medical Center. He is the son of Ross and Barb Nelson of New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, and 7:30-9:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. A parish prayer service will be 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
