Services are 11 a.m. Monday at the Bernadotte Lutheran Church, Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church Monday. Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop is handling arrangements. She is survived by nieces and nephews; and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Freda Wedin; husband, Chester Lager; son, Carl, in infancy; brothers, Carl Wedin in childhood and Marvin Wedin; and sister, Maude Lager. She was born Nov. 23, 1900, in Hector, to Frank and Freda (Alisch) Wedin. She grew up in Hector and graduated from Hector High School. She continued her education at Mankato State College, where she received her teaching certificate. Her first job was teaching first grade in Petersburg. Her next move brought her to Winthrop where taught first grade for two years at the public school. She married Chester Lager May 19, 1926, at Bernadotte. They ran the Princess Cafe together for a number of years. She also worked for Dr. Rolf Hovde in Winthrop and Dr. John Bengtson in his dental offices in Winthrop and Fairfax. Chester died July 20, 1991. She entered the Lafayette Good Samaritan Assisted Living Center after her 100th birthday. Due to an injury in July, she entered the Arlington Good Samaritan Center. She was a long time member of Bernadotte Lutheran Church and the Order of the Easter Star. Joan Walter, 57, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, after a battle with cancer. Mass of Christian burial is Monday. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud. She is survived by her husband, Nick, Jr., children Marie Vogt and husband Gary, Chris Walter and husband Dan, Nick, III; Amy Schultz and husband Mike; Daniel Walter and wife Kris and Larry Walter; parents Nick and Rolise (Braun) Hauser, brothers Jerry and wife Bard, and Kenny and wife Peggy; sister Delrose Stadick and husband Melvin; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sister Marlene. Victoria Varland, 88, of Hector, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Hutchinson Area Health Care. Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church, Hector with burial in Hector City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, and one hour prior to services Sunday at the church. Jennifer Grove, 31, of St. James, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital. Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.
