Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Joan is survived by a daughter, Mary Miller of New Ulm; a son, John Schlumpberger of Hanover; three grandchildren; and a great grandchild; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and James Graeve of St. Joseph, and Rose and Gene Flaig of Young America; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Rose Hesse of Minneapolis; also by a special friend Richard Boeder. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Donald Hesse; and also by a foster son, Peter. Joan was born Nov. 25, 1935 in Redwood County, to Ferdinand and Mary (Ruschke) Hesse. She attended Springfield Public Schools. She worked for Dannheim's Kuhstall in New Ulm. She later worked for KNUJ Radio in sales, then she worked for Jackpot Junction in Morton. She was the restaurant manager at Holiday Inn in New Ulm, and later worked for Brown County Human Services and most recently she worked for Mark and Brenda Wiger (MBW) in New Ulm. She was a menber of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, where she was a lector and also a eucharistic minister. She visited the nursing home residents and the shut-ins on behalf of St. Mary's Church. She was a former member of the Toastmasters Club in New Ulm. Lyle "Skip" Olson, 72 of Hanska died Friday, August 6, 1999 ata the Madelia Community Hospital. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska with burial to folow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 a.m. to Noon Monday at the Firle funeral Home in Hanska as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. A complete notice will appear in Sunday's edition. Rita M. Franta, 61 of South Minneapolis died Wednesday, August 4, 1999 at her daughter's home in Apple Valley. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church, 3637 11th Ave, South in South Minneapolis. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. George Catholic Cemetery, St. George. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 4 p.m. at the Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 3640 23rd. Ave So., Minneapolis. She is survived by her daughters; Christine and her husband Rex Laporte, Carol and her husband Davie Rea, and Catherine Konakowitz; three grandsons; her father, Fremont Franta; sisters Theresa Franta, Marge and her husband Keith Richer, and Julie and her husband Jim Oestreich; brother Ken Franta; nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her mother Minnie Franta. Othelia C. "Tuts" Firle, 95 of Fairfax, died Friday, August 6, 1999 at the Fairfax Community Home. Arrangements are pending at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax.
