Mary Bruggeman, 103, of Fairfax, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Sleepy Eye Care Center. Services are 2 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Fairfax, with burial in the church cemetery, Cairo Township, Renville County. Visitation is one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Fairfax, is in charge of arrangements. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters. She was born June 30, 1897, in rural Fairfax, to Benjamin and Elizabeth (Olinger) Bruggeman. She grew up in the Fairfax area, where she attended country school. She moved to Sleepy Eye Care Center on Dec. 30, 1986. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Fairfax. Ronald Emich, 67, of rural Nicollet, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mankato. Burial with military honors will be in Kern's Oak Grove Cemetery in Belgrade Township, Nicollet County. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Mankato Mortuary and at the church Friday, one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mankato, or the American Cancer Society. He is survived by his wife, Doris of rural Nicollet; sons, Scott of St. Peter, Jonathon and his wife Jane of Nicollet, Stuart of Farmington, and Christopher and his special friend Shari Hedler of Mankato; daughter, Jane and Timothy Struss of Courtland; 13 grandchildren; great-grandson; one brother and sister-in-law, Roger and LuAnn of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Donald Hoese of Mayer, Kathryn and Wendel Schroder of Plato; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was born Sept. 5, 1932, to George and Helen (Ernst) Emich in Lester Prairie. He graduated from Lester Prairie High School in 1950. He worked for Central Manufacturing in Lester Prairie, McLeod-Wright Creameries, served in the U.S. Navy, worked for Lester's Inc., Sears Roebuck, the U.S. Post Office, Blue Earth County Assessor's Office, owned and operated Emich's Market, Standard Lumber in St. Peter, Cotter Co. in Mankato and Mankato Mortuary. He was an elder and Mens' Club member at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mankato. He also belonged to the Nicollet Lions Club, Nicollet Conservation Club, a past officer for AAL and Food for Friends of VINE. Helena Freyholtz, 97, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Fairfax Community Home. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Wellington Township, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by daughters, Delores Bendixen and husband Norman of Morgan, Shirley Stimpert of Tempe, Ariz., Jean Kokesch and husband George of New Ulm; son, Larris and wife Lorraine of Blackduck; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brothers, Victor Kiecker and wife Edwina, and Lawrence Kiecker and wife Merlyn, all of Fairfax; sister-in-law, Lois Kiecker of Fairfax; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harry; son Wallace; five brothers; and two sisters. She was born Oct. 22, 1902, in Wellington Township, Renville County, to Anton and Sophie (Uetzmann) Kiecker. She attended Emanuel Lutheran School. She married Harry Freyholtz on May 21, 1929. They farmed in rural Fairfax until retirement. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. John W. Knoebel, 62, of Winthrop, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at home, of cancer. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church, Winthrop, with burial in Glenwood City Cemetery, Glenwood City, Wis., at 11 a.m. Saturday. Local military rites will be performed by Winthrop Honor Guard. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Peace Lutheran Church, Winthrop, and will continue one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Dalin-Hangte Funeral Chapel, Winthrop, is in charge of arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Addie McLain of Irvine, Calif., Robert and wife Mary of Howard Lake, Barbara of Farmington, Dedrick of Germany, Peggy Mitch of Glenwood City, Wis.; stepchildren, James Newton of Winthrop and Katie Kizer of Winthrop; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; brothers, David and wife Alice of Homer, La., James and wife Kathy of Hudson, Wis., and Danny of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Betty Portell of Blackwell, Mo., and Susan Knoebel of Menomonie, Wis.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was born May 14, 1938, in Glenwood, Wis., to Harrison and Emma (Hopmann) Knoebel. He attended and graduated from Glenwood City High School in 1956. He worked three years near his home hauling milk, working construction and farming. He entered the U.S. Army on April 1, 1959. He married Erika Bauer on July 22, 1961, in Germany. He received an honorable discharge on June 1, 1967. He re-enlisted and continued serving in the Army with the 3rd Infantry in Cannon Falls for two years, where he was an E-6 staff sergeant. He later worked 11 years with the 452nd General Supply Company, Winthrop. He married Carol Eiler on Nov. 22, 1976 in Watertown, S.D. He retired from the U.S. Army in November 1987. He worked at Mid-America Dairy for 30 years in Farmington and Winthrop, until retirement. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Winthrop, where he served as custodian for several years. He was a member of Winthrop American Legion Post 314 and Farmington V.F.W. Post 7662. Arline Steenhoven, 93, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Sunwood Care Center, Redwood Falls. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Springfield. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. She is survived by sons, Richard and wife Jeanette of Grand Rapids, John and wife Virginia of West Lafayette, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sister, Stella Thomas; granddaughter Mary; and great-grandson Bryan. She was born March 24, 1907, in New Ulm, to Louis and Anna (Kretsch) Schilling. She attended Holy Trinity School, New Ulm. In 1917, she moved to Springfield, where she attended and graduated from high school at St. Raphael's. She attended St. Theresa's College, Winona, and began teaching in Sanborn and Glencoe. She was a principal, supervised class plays, was a declamatory coach, and taught English, German and history. She married John Steenhoven on June 1, 1935, in Glencoe. They operated an implement company in Lamberton. They later moved to Springfield, where they joined Louis Schilling in the hardware and implement business. Steenhoven Implement closed in 1987. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, St. Anne's CCW, the Lady Foresters, and Springfield Senior Citizens. Pat (Mrs. Tom) Mueller,, 69, of rural St. James and formerly of Windom, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Benefits Health Care in Great Falls, Mont. Arrangements are pending with the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont.
