"Reiny" Heidemann, 87, formerly of Nicollet died Thursday, August 19, 1999 at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet, and one hour prior to the service at the church. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Barb and Win Vatthauer of Belle Plaine, Rhonda Halvorson of Redwood Falls; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sisters and brother in law, Ruth and Glen Meyer of Mankato, Carol Heidemann of Calumet City, Ill.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Doris Heidemann of Estell Springs, Tenn., Donald "Bud" and Averill Heidemann of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Erna in 1991; step-mothers, Eleanora Stolt Heidemann and Nellie Nothwehr Heidemann. He was born on Sept. 27, 1911 in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County to Henry and Viola (Freitag) Heidemann. He married Erna Bode July 30, 1939 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Courtland Township, Nicollet County. After marriage they lived in Nicollet. He had been employed as a Automobile Mechanic at the Nicollet Garage, as a Custodian at the Nicollet Public School, and a Machinery Mechanic at Zins Implement in Nicollet. He had owned and operated the DX Gas Station in Nicollet and had been a Maintenance Man for the Martin Luther College in New Ulm until he retired in 1987. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet and had held various church offices. He had volunteered at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and had also volunteered at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine. William J. Puchner, 84 of Webster, Wis. and formerly of New Ulm, died August 16, 1999. Services were held Aug. 19 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife Bluette; sons, Billy of Webster, Wisc., Chris and wife Heidi of St. Louis Park, Andy and wife Beth of Minnetonka; sisters, Anna Marie Bock of Omaha, Neb., Mary Ellen Little of Minneapolis, Carol Rauch of Shakopee; nieces, nephews and friends. He was CEP of Minnetonka Glass and Mirror of Deephaven; and Glass and Mirror Works of Webster, Wisc. George Edward Dawes, 84, of Owatonna died Friday August 20, 1999 at Cedarview Nursing Home. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Episcopal in Owatonna. Burialo with military honors will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m.l Monday at the Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna. He is survived by his wife Alvera; daughter and son-in-law Katherine and Scott Brittain, all of Owatonna; daughter and son-in-law Judith and Mike Martens of New Ulm; four grandchildren; sister Ilene Knitter of Rochester, N.Y. He was born Oct. 29, 1914 in Ellendale, N.D. to Charles and Elizabeth (Townsend) Dawes. He was a 1938 graduate of the University of N.D., Grand Forks. He married Alvera R. Deal June 21, 1941 in Minneapolis. He was drafted into the U.S. Army as a Private in 1941, graduated from officers' training school, was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in 1942, and served in Iraq, Iran, the Persian Gulf, China, Burma, and India. He was decorated for service in each of those theaters of operation and was discharged in 1946 as a Captain, joining the Army Reserves. He was promoted to Major in 1953 and retired from the Reserves in 1974. Following active military service, he worked for Starline Barn Equipment of Howard, Ill. He purchased a hardware store in Owatonna in 1954, retiring from the business in 1977.He was president of the Owatonna Chamber of Commerce in 1961, served on the advisory committee of Owatonna High School, was a member of the Owatonna Development Corp., was a member of the Minnesota Hardware Association, and the Elks' Lodge. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Owatonna, serving on the Vestry and many other church committees. He was also a member of American Legion Post 77, VFW Post 3723, the Reserve Officers Association, China-Burma-India-Basha, and the Persian Gulf Command Club. He was an eleventh-generation, direct decendant of American Revolution figure William Dawes, -- the man who rode with Paul Revere in 1775 to warn of the coming of British forces in the hours before the Battles at Lexington and Concord, Mass. -- and organized "The Decendants of William Dawes Who Rode Association in 1976, and was President Emeritus of that organization. Elvie Blackstad, 84. of Simi Valley, Calif., formerly of St. James, died Friday, August 13, 1999 at the Simi Valley Community Hospital. Services were conducted Aug. 18 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with burial at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills cemetery. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Sheldon and wife Nancy of Conway S.C., Terrence and wife Christi of Placentia, Calif.; daughter Victryn and husband Edward Carey of Simi Valley, Calif.; sister Ima and husband Eadell Wing of Springfield; eight grandchildren; 14 grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her husband Ray in 1988, her parents, her sister Roselind, and son-in-law Phillip Mann. She was born Feb. 27, 1915 in Adrian Twp, Watonwan County to Peter and Edity (Olson) Freeman. She attended the Sveadahl rural school and St. James High School, graduating in 1932. She married Ray Blackstad Feb. 27, 1934 in St. James. They lived in rural St. James and Buffalo Lake, moving to Los Angeles in 1950. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was active in the WELCA circle.
