   Clifford E. Nelson , 72, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Sleepy Eye Care Center.
   Services are 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 27, at St. John's Evangelical Church, Sleepy Eye.
   Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye and Friday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
   Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.

   Jody Portner , 50, of 1615 South Franklin Street in New Ulm, died Sunday, August 22, 2004, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
   Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
   Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 7:30 -10 a.m., Thursday, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
   In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
   Jody is survived by her husband, Jerome "Butch" Portner of New Ulm; mother, Lydia Skorczewski of New Ulm; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Eric Nelson of Gaylord; son, Jamey Portner of New Ulm; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Gloria Skorczewski of Marshall, Terry and Bonnie Skorczewski of Northfield, and Gary Skorczewski of Appleton; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willard and Phyllis Portner of Klossner; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Don Perko of Highland Ranch, Colorado, Deb and Brad Remus of Wasilla, Alaska; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leon and Sheri Portner of Lafayette; and many nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Skorczewski, and a sister, Linda Skorczewski.
   Jodele Jean Skorczewski was born on August 13, 1954 in Canby to Alvin and Lydia (Dastych) Skorczewski. She graduated from New Ulm Public High School in 1972. On July 20, 1974 she married Jerome Portner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm. She had worked for State Bank in New Ulm, Lakes Gas in Essig, Kraft, and was currently employed at 3M in New Ulm. Jody enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening, and her family and friends. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm.
