   Clifford Herman Scharmer, 83, of Buffalo Lake, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999 at his home.
   Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Zion United Methodist Church, Buffalo Lake with burial in the Zion Evangelical Cemetery.
   Visitation will be 4-8 p.m Sunday at the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and one hour prior to the service at the church.
   He is survived by his wife Mary Jane of Buffalo Lake, and daughters and sons-in-law Judy and Ron Swartzell of Olathe, Kan., Jean and Keith Schultz of Dassel, Joyce and Ron Spruill of Olathe, Kan.; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters Mabel Sifferath of Buffalo Lake, and Violet Bloomquist of Nampa, Idaho; brothers, LeRoy and Elmer Scharmer of Buffalo Lake; nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; one in infancy and Myrtle Flemming, and by two brothers Ralph and Henry.
   He was born on March 13, 1916 in Grafton Township, Sibley County the son of Herman and Helen (Mueller) Scharmer. He attended country school and school in Buffalo Lake through the eighth grade when he quit to work on the family farm. He was drafted into the military in 1941. He served active duty for four years. He was part of Company D, 184th Infantry, 7th Division fighting in the South Pacific and was one of only five in his company of 200 to return home. He married Mary Jane Evert Dec. 18, 1945. He worked as a mechanic in Buffalo Lake for several years. He bought the family store called Scharmer Hardware Store in Buffalo Lake. During this time he went to school to become a master plumber. He later established Cliff Scharmer Plumbing and Heating which he owned and operated for 45 years. He was been a member of Zion United Methodist Church since 1988.

   Victor J. "Vic" Harmening, 84, of 1117 5th North Street in New Ulm died Thursday, August 26, 1999 at his home.
   Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
   Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
   He is survived by his wife Eleanor "Sis" Harmening of New Ulm; daughter Bonnie Reim of St. Paul, daughter and son-in-law Vicki and James Pearson of New Ulm; eight grandchildren ; six great-grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Victor Reim Jr., brothers Alwin Harmening and Woodrow Harmening; sisters Christina Apitz and Emma Apitz.
   He was born July 15, 1915 in New Ulm to Alwin and Bertha (Rautenberg) Harmening. He graduated from New Ulm Public High School and then served with the United States Army during WWII with a tour in the Pacific Theater. He married Eleanor Steinhaus Jan. 17, 1940 in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm where he worked at various places such as the Wearwell Garment Factory, Pat's Cleaners, Zischka-Hamman (Z & H) Bar, and then the New Ulm Manufacturing Company which later became Ray-Go and now is known as Caterpiller. He retired in the late 1970's. He was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm and the New Ulm Country Club. Memorial are preferred to the donor's choice.
