   Emelia Machau, 87, of LeCenter, formerly of New Ulm and Courtland, died on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
   Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Firle Funeral Home of New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
   She is survived by daughters, Janice Machau of Minneapolis, and Vivian Tastel of Mound; son David Machau and his spouse Lori of Courtland; four grandchildren; sisters, Lydia Hanson and Madeline Harrison, both in Oregon; brother, Lawrence Fischer of North Dakota; special family member Oscar Reinhart of Franklin; and nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by an infant grandchild, and many brothers and sisters.
   She was born Aug. 27, 1914, in Stanton, N.D., to Fredrick and Christina (Horning) Fischer. She grew up and attended school in Stanton. She married Theophil "Art" Machau on Jan. 1, 1935 in Hazen, N.D. They worked on farms in Gaylord, Norwood, and later settled in the Courtland area where they continued to farm until 1975.
   They lived near Courtland until her husband's death in 1993. The following year she moved to the Sunset Apartments in New Ulm, and most recently was a resident of the Central Healthcare Center in LeCenter. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

   John Coner, 68, of Cobden, died on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at his home.
   Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard.
   Visitation is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
   He is survived by his wife, Karen of Cobden; sons, Paul and wife Sue of Sleepy Eye, Jon and wife Amy of San Diego, Calif., and Joe Coners of Bloomington; daughter, Michelle and husband George Tauer of Springfield; seven granddaughters; brothers, George and wife Mavis of Hendricks, and Fred and Virginia of Springfield; sisters, Alice and husband Gilbert Ludewig of Springfield, and Tillie McVicker of Fort Doge, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Deanna Krebs in 1986 and seven half-brothers and five half sisters.
   He was born April 22, 1933, in Cottonwood County, to Claus and Anna (Rohden) Coners. He served with the National Guards at Camp Rucker, Ala., during the Korean War. He worked a few years in the Iron Mines in Virginia. Most of his life he worked in road construction, most recently with Wallner Construction of New Ulm and Carlson Brothers in Springfield. He was the mayor of Cobden for several years.

   Myron Kletscher, 73, of Vesta, died on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at the Parkview Home in Belview.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vesta, with burial in Vesta Cemetery.
   Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and one hour prior to services at the church.
   He is surived by nine siblings and their spouses, Elaine and husband Lenn Borning of Echo, Elvira Meier of Echo, Elvern and wife Arlene of Vesta, Harold and wife Marilyn of Vesta, Clarence and wife Margaret of Winstead, Ardyce and husband Darold Rudenick of Lucan, Jeanette and husband Milan Stage of Vesta, Janice and husband Wallace Stage of Redwood Falls and Merlin and wife Iylene of New London; and many nieces and nephews.
   He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Edna, brother Laverne and brother-in-law Harvey Meier.
   He was born Oct.11, 1927, in Vesta Township in Redwood County, to Henry and Ida (Arndt) Kletscher. He attended country school. He farmed in Vesta until retirement in 1987 and continued to live on the farm until 1997 when he became a resident of Parkview Home in Belview. He was a member of the Parkview Home Resident Council.

   Frieda Quirk, 99, of St. James, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James.
   Private family services are at the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James.
   Visitation is 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James.
   She is survived by her daughter, Corinne Swanson of St. James; a granddaughter; two great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; many step great grandchildren and step-great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ann Harty; and nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her husbands, son-in-law, Orville Swanson, sister, Laura and her husband Roy, and two nieces and their husbands.
   She was born Nov. 7, 1901, in St. Paul, to Louis and Elizabeth (Diedrich) Boldt. She moved to Duluth. She married William (Bill) Barkley on Sept. 16, 1921, in Duluth. They had a daughter, Corrine. Bill died on Aug. 4, 1929. She worked for Schuneman-Mannheimer as an accountant and the St. Cloud Veterans Hospital as a medical secretary until 1943. She married James Quirk on Oct. 9, 1943, in St. Cloud. They lived in White Bear Lake. James died on Jan. 1, 1976. In September 1978, she moved to St. James to be near her daughter. She was a resident of the Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James from April 1996 until her death.

   Marlys Frederickson, 66, of LaSalle, died on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at her home.
   Services are 11 a.m. Monday at LaSalle Lutheran Church in LaSalle, with burial in the LaSalle Lutheran Cemetery.
   Visitation will be 4-5 p.m Sunday 8-9:30 a.m. Monday at the Pease Funeral Home in St. James and one hour prior to services at the church.
   She is survived by her husbande Donald C. Frederickson of LaSalle; sons, Scott and his wife, Cindy of St. James and Keith Frederickson and special friend, Ruth Nelson of Hanska; two grandchildren; brother, Walter Nelson and his wife Verna of Ft. Meyers Beach, Florida; and sisters-in-law, Arlene Nelson of Boxholm, lowa, Bonnie Nelson of Brownsdale, Janis Nelson of Kimball and Virginia Nelson of New Ulm.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Vernon Nelson, Ernest (Bud) Nelson, Floyd Nelson, LeRoy Nelson and Arvid Nelson.
   She was born March 25, 1935, in Herman, to Ernest and Frieda (Brandon) Nelson. She moved with her family to the St. James area and was a 1954 graduate of St. James High School. She married Donald C. Frederickson on Oct. 4, 1958, at the Albion Lutheran Church in rural St. James. They lived in the St. James area and in LaSalle since 1969. She was employed by Tony Downs Foods and as an aide at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in St. James. She was a member of the LaSalle Lutheran Church.

   Shirley Westman, 76, of St. James, died on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
   Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
   Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at Strum Funeral Home in St. James and one hour prior to services at the church.
   She is survived by her husband, Marvin, of St. James; sons, Harley and wife Nona, Delroy and wife Carol, Lorin and wife Terri; daughter-in-law, Ruth Westman; and 13 grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Darlene Nordstrom and Lorraine Krumrie, and son, Gary Westman.
   She was born Oct. 9, 1924, in St. James, to Fred and Stella (Larson) Weide. She graduated from St. James High School. She married Marvin Westman on Dec. 18, 1943, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James. They owned and operated the Westman Service Station for 35 years in Godahl. They lived on their family farm for many years. She was on the Ladies Aid Committee and was a longtime member of the Kitchen Band in Godahl.

   Nelda Freuler, 79, died on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at St. James Health Services Hospital.

   Dale A. Hubert, 70, of Sleepy Eye, died on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
   Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
