Bierbaum, 85, of New Ulm died Thursday, September. 9, 1999 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.    Mass of Christian Burial will be 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.    Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Firle Funeral Home of New Ulm is handling arrangements.    Survivors include nieces, Dr. Lois J. Karl and her husband J. Roy Black of Michigan, Eileen M. Welna and her husband Thomas of St. Paul; nephew, Thomas M. Karl of Denver, Colo.    She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Bierbaum in 1977; sister, Ethel (Leary) Karl in 1990; and niece Mary J. Karl.    She was born July 29, 1914 in New Ulm to Raymond and Emma (Sturm) Leary. She graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic High School in 1932. On June 3, 1943 she married Adolph Bierbaum and they resided in New Ulm. She was employed as a secretary at the Eagle Roller Mill company in New Ulm. For 25 years she was employed by the State Employment Service office of New Ulm. Following her husband's death, she continued to work until retiring in 1981. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Turner Ladies, St. Monica's Society, and had been active with the food shelf.    Hilmer Brekke, 84, of Springfield, formerly of Godahl, died Friday, September 10, 1999 at Springfield Medical Center.    Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Albion Lutheran Church, rural St. James, with burial in Albion Lutheran Cemetery.    Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, and one hour prior to services at the church.    A complete obituary will appear in a later edition of The Journal.     Elsa Asmus, 97, of Gaylord died Friday, September 10, 1999 at Gaylord Lakeview Home.    Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord.    Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 - 9 a.m. at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord, and one hour prior to the service at the church.    A complete obituary will appear in a later edition of The Journal.
