State S. in New Ulm died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001 at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is 5-6 p.m. Friday at Divine Providence Community Chapel in Sleepy Eye. There will be a combined society rosary starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday which will be followed by a parish prayer service at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in New Ulm. Visitation continues at 10 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in New Ulm. Arrangements are handled by Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. He is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. James R. and Jane Seifert of New Ulm, Dr. Richard and Carmen Seifert of Fargo, N. D.; daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Bernard Reichel of Santa Monica, Calif.; sister, Mrs. Bernice Manderfeld of Springfield; sister-in-law, Mrs. Myra Dempsey, of New Ulm; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Henle, on April 4, 1921; her second husband, Dr. Otto J. Seifert, on Feb. 19, 1964; sons, Joseph Seifert on Jan. 9, 1929, and Captain Otto J. Seifert, Jr. on May 13, 1943; daughters, Muriel Seifert, on Jan. 22, 1994 and Dorothy Savchuck on Oct. 22, 1998, her parents; brothers, Ben, Alois, and Rudolph Marti; and sisters, Sister Rudolphis Marti and Linda (Mrs. Roy) Gordier. She was born on June 14, 1896, in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, to Rudolph and Mary (Huelskamp) Marti. She attended Holy Trinity Grade School in New Ulm, Good Counsel Academy in Mankato, and St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Chicago. On May 5, 1920, she married Raymond Henle at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. After his death, she married Dr. Otto J. Seifert on May 15, 1922 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, St. Mary's Catholic Aid Society, St. Monica's Society, American Legion Auxiliary, the Gold Star Mothers, a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross for 25 years, a charter member of the Loretto Hospital Auxiliary, chairperson of the first coffee shop at Loretto Hospital, Catholic Daughters of America, the New Ulm Medical Center Auxiliary, Junior Pioneers, Turner Hall, Brown County Historical Society, and the Senior Citizens of New Ulm. She had been a resident of the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye since 1994. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the St. Mary's Parish, Way of the Cross, Brown County Historical Society, New Ulm Area Catholic Schools or Father Alexander Berghold Memorial. Irene Stoppelmann, 93, of Belle Plaine, died on Monday, Sept. 17, 2001 at The Lutheran Home, Belle Plaine. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine with burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church Thursday. She is survived by her sister, Elsie of Belle Plaine; sister-in-law, Anna of Belle Plaine; 5 nieces; 2 nephews; great and great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Frank, Fred, and Walter; sisters-in-law, Alice and Marion Stoppelmann, and nephew, Howard Stoppelmann. She was born Oct. 18,1907 in Blakeley Township, Scott County to William and Emma (Domke) Stoppelmann. She worked at The Lutheran Home as a cook for 18 years and worked several summers for Green Giant. She was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church. Elda M. Kassuelke, 84, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Mankato. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation are 4-7 p.m. today at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be given to Immanuel- St. Joseph's Hospice. She is survived by sons, Gregory Kassuelke and his fiancee Janice Koehler of Bay Port, Douglas Kassuelke and his wife Sally of North Mankato; daughter, Janice Jordan and her husband, John of Kasota; seven grandchildren; brother, Raymond, Kuester of New Ulm; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Steven; a brother and two sisters. She was born Oct. 7, 1916, to Albert and Alvina (Becker) Kuester in Courtland. She married Leander F. Kassuelke on June 27, 1940, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. She worked at Mid-Tex, the Burton Hotel and Ben Franklin in Mankato. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Mankato. Roman G. Zwach, 87, Wabasso Health Care Center, formerly of Milroy, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Redwood Area Hospital. Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Milroy with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and continues Friday one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday in the church followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary. Military rites will be conducted by the Milroy American Legion Post 274. The Sunset Funeral Home of Echo is handling the arrangements. He is survived by son, Larry of Walnut Grove; daughter, Aisleen Benda and her husband Jim of St. Louis Park; grandchildren, Joel and Joshua; sisters Emma VanKuelen of Marshall and Carol Kesteloot and her husband Vic of Marshall; brothers, Harry Zwach and his wife Louise of Marshall, Paul Zwach and his wife Bernice of Tracy, and Robert Zwach and his wife Doris of Milroy. He was preceded in death by his wife Rita on June 25, 1993; brothers, Joe, John, and Henry; and sisters, Elsie Schloegel and Rose Fischer. He was born April 4, 1914 in Gales Township, Redwood County, Minnesota to Joseph and Barbara (Hammerschmidt) Zwach. He graduated from Milroy High School in 1932. He attended the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus, before returning home to farm. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. On Nov. 20, 1946, he married Rita Logue in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tracy. They farmed until retiring in 1985 and moving to Milroy. He entered the Wabasso Health Care Center in 1996. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Milroy, where he served on the building committee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Milroy American Legion. He was mayor of Milroy.
