Robert "Bob" Rubie, 41, of 1404 North Minnesota died Friday, September 24, 2004 at his home after a very brave and courageous battle with Melanoma cancer. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Todd Nelsen officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. on Monday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Tuesday. Bob is survived by his wife Julie Rubie of New Ulm; his children, Allison, Erin, and Colin; parents, Anton and Leona Rubie of New Ulm; sister, Barbara O' Brien and her husband, Pat of Hayward, Wisconsin; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Cathy Trautmiller of New Ulm; a sister-in-law, Sue Sullivan and her husband, Scott; niece and god daughter, Amber Sullivan of New Ulm; goddaughter, Callie Johnson of Bernadotte; and an uncle, Lawrence Hornig of New Ulm; he was preceded in death by his grandparents and godparents. Bob was born on July 9, 1963 in New Ulm to Anton and Leona Rubie. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1981. On May 20, 1989, he married Julie Trautmiller at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Bob worked as a mechanic at Potter's in New Ulm until September 1999. He then worked for the City of New Ulm Park and Rec for the last five years until his death. Bob was a good friend to many. He enjoyed watching his children's activities. He loved work whether it was his job, farming, wood working, or mechanics. Bob enjoyed deer hunting, watching NASCAR races, and bowling. For those who knew him best, his passion was riding motorcycle. With the help of his best friend, Leon Matties, he attained his last goal, making it to the Sturgis Bike Rally in August for the eighteenth time. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the donor's choice. James R. Carrier, 67, of Waconia, formerly of New Ulm, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Monday, Sept. 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, with Father Edward Ardolf officiating. Interment will be in New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home, 141 East 1st St., Waconia, with a vigil prayer service at 5 p.m., and at St. Mary's church Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the mass. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; son and daughter-in-law, Randall Carrier and Mary Jorissen of Shakopee; daughter, Mary Jane Carrier and special friend Mark Jacobson of Waconia; granddaughter, Jennifer Christensen; great grandchildren, Leah and T.J. Christensen; brother and sister-in-law, Rich and Judy Carrier of Austin, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, MaryLu and Bruce Brendon of St. Louis Park; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen Carrier of New York, LorJean Hauser of North Mankato, Liz and Paul Kubiszewski of Porter, Donald and Donna Hauser of Hammond, Wis., Jerome and Alice Hauser of New Ulm, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Lucille Carrier; brother, Michael Carrier; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Mary Hauser; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Adrian Mattila, Eugene Hauser, Raymond Hauser, Roland Hauser, James Hauser, Norbert Hauser, Rosella and Al Ubl. He was born Jan. 4, 1937, in New Ulm, the son of Dale and Lucille (Devine) Carrier. He grew up in New Ulm and moved to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota. He served two years in the U.S. Navy. He belonged to the AmVets in Waconia, who stood guard at the wake. He worked for the New Ulm Phone Company, and was employed at Qwest for 35 years. He loved playing dominoes, card games, visiting with family and friends and wintering in Arizona. Jim was a member of St. Victoria Catholic Church in Waconia.
