Memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Palmyra Township. Family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred in place of flowers to giver's choice. Arrangements are handled by Hughes Funeral Home. She is survived by her children, Garry Anderson and wife Helen of Chaska, Gene Anderson of Hector, Jolayne Choi and husband Sin il of Corpus Christi, Texas; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene; siblings, Alfreda, Emily, Olga, Carl, Florence, Melford and Elmer. She was born July 20, 1912, in Palmyra Township, Renville County, o Oscar and Julia (Johnson) Anderson. She attended District 91 rural school. She graduated from Hector High School in 1931. She worked on the family farm with her brothers and sisters. She married Eugene Anderson on April 9, 1943 at the Swedlanda Lutheran Church. They farmed in Palmyra Township. She was an active member of Swedlanda Lutheran Church. Alvin B. Nelson, 74, of Winthrop, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999 at Hutchinson Community Hospital. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Riverside Assembly of God church in Hutchinson with burial in the Winthrop cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop and continues one hour before services at the church. He is survived by his wife, Donnabell; children, Susette Leuthold and husband Jerry of Winthrop, Candice Pederson of Winthrop, Lance Nelson and his wife Renee of Big Lake, Holly Mogler and husband Jay of Elk River, Jill One of Naperville, Ill., Scott Nelson and his wife Kris of Andover, Garrett Nelson and his wife, Dawn of Brooklyn Park, Kyle Nelson and wife Tammy of Eden Prairie, Shawn Nelson and wife Stephanie of Hutchinson; children by a previous marriage: Gary Nelson and wife Bice of New Berlin, Wis., Robert Nelson and wife Becky of Brooklyn Park, Lynn Lange and husband Jim of Wyo.; 20 grandchildren; seven grandchildren from his previous marriage; two great-grandchildren; and sister Natalie Engberg and husband Ken of Brahm. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was born July 21, 1925, in Minneapolis to Alvin and Geraldine (Zack) Nelson. He grew up in Minneapolis. He attended South High School in Minneapolis. He served in the U.S. Navy. He attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He worked as a journeyman electrician with the local union 343. He married Donnabell Messner on Feb. 14, 1952. They lived in Crystal Lake, Ill., until 1968 when they moved to Winthrop. The couple resided in Transit Township, Sibley County where he farmed and continued to work as an electrician. He was a member of Riverside Assembly of God Church in Hutchinson. Roman 'Romie' C. Athmann, 81, of Fairfax, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, in Fairfax. Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax with burial in the church cemetery in Cairo Township, Renville County, with full military rites by the Fairfax Honor Guard. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax and continues one hour before the service Friday at the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 6 p.m. and a rosary at 7 p.m., today at the funeral chapel in Fairfax. He is survived by his wife, Irene of Fairfax; sons, David Athmann and wife Susan of Knightstown, Ind., Marvin Athmann and wife Karen of Shakopee, Tom Athmann and wife Bernie of Farmington, and Todd Athmann of Waite Park; six grandchildren; sisters, Billie Altman of Cold Spring, Donna Gieske and husband Jack of Bloomington and Bede Tieman and husband Roy of Melrose; brothers, Eddie Athmann and wife Sally of Stewart, and Les Athmann of New Orleans, La.; and nieces, nephews, cousins, friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, "Porky", Mel, Ottie and Norb; and sisters Christine and Tillie. He was born Oct. 24, 1917, in Spring Hill to Henry and Regina (Wander) Athmann. He played with the Norb Athmann orchestra He married Irene Wiebold Aug. 4, 1941 at Immaculate Conception Church in New Munich. He entered the U.S. Army Nov. 10, 1943 and was in the South Pacific theater until his honorable discharge on Jan. 19, 1946. The couple resided in Melrose where he was employed at the Melrose Beacon. In 1957 the couple moved to Fairfax where they owned and operated Romie's Cafe until his retirement in 1981. After his retirement, he sold insurance for American Assurance until the late 1980s. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, where he an usher and trustee and belonged to Catholic Aid. He was also a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was a Fairfax City Council member for nine years. He belonged to the Fairfax VFW post 8459 where he was a past commander. He was a member and past commander of the Fairfax American Legion Post 205 and a member of New Ulm DAV. He was also a member of the Fairfax C&C and a charter member and past treasurer of the Fairfax Lions Club. He was also a Scout Master for 25 years. Erna K. Schmidt, 87, of Boynton Beach, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodland Hills Chapel in Mankato. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Woodland Hills Funeral Home, 11605 Woodland Ave., Mankato; and continues one hour before services Saturday at the church. She is survived by son Dennis Schmidt and wife Bea of Lantana, Fla.; daughters, Betty Craven and husband, Milton of Boynton, Fla.; Laura Erlandson of Mankato; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Herman and wife Clara Schroeder of New Ulm; sister, Dorothy and husband Emery Tedrick of Everett, Wash..; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one brother, five sisters and one sin-in-law. She was born April 11, 1912 in Fairfax to John T. and Lydia (Kaegbein) Schroeder. She grew up in the New Ulm area and moved to Mankato in 1950. While in Mankato she worked nine years for Brett's Department Store. In 1959 she moved to West Palm Beach, Fla., and worked for Burdeness. She retired in 1991. Nellie Lundquist, 96, of Madelia, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Madelia Community Hospital. Services are 10:30 Saturday at Madelia United Methodist Church with burial in O'Brien County Liberty Township Cemetery in rural Calumet, Iowa. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia and also one hour prior to services at the church. She is survived by sons, Veron and wife Mary Dean of Wilson, Wis., Jack and wife Shirley of Ontario, Calif., Kermit of Gary, S.D., and Ralph of Lake Park, Iowa; daughters, Rozella Hoch and husband Gaylon of Mesa, Ariz., LaVonne Breckenridge and husband William of Madelia, and Beverly Roush and husband Hiram of Chula Vista, Calif., 26 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sister, Viola Ginger of Sutherland, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999, six brothers, five sisters and two grandchildren. She was born on April 12, 1903, in O'Brien County, Iowa, to Arandt and Emma (Schneekloth) Reimers. She grew up in rural Calumet, Iowa and attended rural school there. She married Clarence Lundquist on Oct. 22, 1924, on the family farm. They farmed in the area until 1935 when they moved to a farm in rural Lake Park, Iowa. They retired in 1975 but remained on the farm until moving into town in 1984. She moved to Madelia in 1997. Agnes Martin, 81, of Winthrop died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999 at her home. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in Winthrop Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8 a.m. Saturday at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop; and continues one hour before the service Saturday at the church. There will be a complete obituary in tomorrow's edition. Vivian Johnson, 91, of New Sweden Township, rural St. Peter, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999m at Grandview Good Samaritan Center in St. Peter. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church in rural St. Peter with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-9 a.m. Saturday at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord, and one hour prior to the service at the church. She is survived by daughter, Emilie Lokensgard; son, Charles Johnson, both of rural St. Peter; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Pehrson of Lafayette; brothers, Winton Larson of Deer River, Donald Larson of Rochester; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Harvey in 1973; son-in-law, Merlyn Lokensgard; grandson, Matthew Lokensgard; sisters, Hazel Bjorklund, Anna Bjorklund, Irene Allerson; brothers, Clayton Einer, Kermit Larson. She was born Aug. 24, 1908, in New Sweden Township, Nicollet County to Jens and Emma (Webster) Larson. She graduated in 1926 from St. Peter High School and from St. Peter Teachers Training. She taught in rural schools in Nicollet County. She married Harvey L. Johnson on Aug. 8, 1937, at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church in Norseland, rural St. Peter. They farmed in New Sweden Township, Nicollet County. She was a lifelong member of Scandian Grove Lutheran Church, several ladies' organizations, and she taught Sunday School. She was also an adult 4-H leader and Cub Scout leader. Germaine Klaras, 92, of St. James, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at United Hospital, St. Paul. Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.
