   Merlin 'Mick' Cooper, 56, of New Ulm, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 1999 at Immanuel/St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.
   Mass of Christian burial is 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today and 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. A parish prayer service will be held 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
   He is survived by his wife, Carol Cooper; sons, Keith and his wife Liz Cooper, Gary and his wife Wendy Cooper, all of New Ulm; grandchildren, Alex, Austin, Samantha and Daniel; mother, Edith Cooper of Morris; brother, Harold and his wife Sandy Cooper of Appleton; sisters, Connie and her husband Melvin Wohlers of Morris, Shirley Cooper of Richfield, Karen and her husband Bod Nierson of Bloomington; two aunts; nieces, nephews and cousins.
   He was preceded in death by his father, mother-in-law and father-in-law.
   He was born May 19, 1943, in rural Clinton to Melvin and Edith (Carlson) Cooper. He grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1961. On May 11, 1962, he married Carol Karels in Ortonville. The couple lived for five years in Morris where he became an insurance agent. They moved to New Ulm in 1967. He became district sales manager for Combined Insurance. He retired from Combined Insurance in 1990 when he started his own agency. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm.

   Elaine L. Springer, 55, of Winthrop died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999 a New Ulm Medical Center.
   Services are 10 a.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
   Visitation continues one hour before the service today at the church. Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop handled arrangements.
   She is survived by husband, John Springer of Winthrop; daughter, Angie Neuman and husband Kevin of Fairfax; son, Scott Springer and wife Mona of Hudson grandchildren, Jessica and Aaron Neuman; mother, Leona Kruggel of Winthrop; brothers, Jim Kruggel and wife Carol of Winthrop, and Denny Kruggel of Winthrop; sister, Kathy Volkmann of Winthrop; brother-in-law, Ron Springer and wife Sharon of Corona, Calif.; sister-in-law, Joyce Osland and husband Stan of Tracy; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
   She was preceded in death by her father Norman Kruggel and sister Jean Kruggel.
   She was born April 21, 1944 in New Ulm. She grew up in the Winthrop area and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1962. She worked in the Twin Cities at Auto Miles, an auto store, as a secretary. She also worked for the City of Winthrop as a secretary at City Hall for over 20 years. She married John Springer on Dec. 28, 1966 at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop.

   Robert Glasgow, 81, of St. James, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at St. James.
   Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Childhood Catholic Church, St. Paul, with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
   Visitation is 2:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday at Sturm Funeral Funeral Home, St. James, with a Knights of Columbus and Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 5 p.m. There is also a visitation from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Holcomb-Henry-Boom Funeral Home, St. Paul.

   Robert 'Bob' Johnson, 60, of rural Garden City, died Thursday, Oct.5, 1999, at Madelia Community Hospital.
   Services are 2 p.m. today at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center with burial in the Vernon Center Cemetery.
   Visitation is one hour before services at the church.
   Lake Crystal Mortuary handled arrangements.
   Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
   He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of rural Garden City; children, Robin Henke and husband Craig of North Mankato, Wendy Johnson and fiance Scott Amundson of North Mankato, Jodi Radde and husband Darren of Granger, Ind., Tracy Johnson of Garden City, Chad Johnson and wife Patricia of North Mankato, Brent Johnson and wife Leslie of Lake Crystal; grandchildren, Jeremy and Jessica Henke, Noah Radde, Taylor Amundson; sister, Shirley Urban of Vernon Center; brother, Wayne Johnson and wife Janet of Hanska; nieces; nephews; and mother-in-law, Sylvia Denn of Lewisville; sister-in-law Sandra Radloff and husband Verne of Essig; brother-in-law, Jerry Denn and his wife Alice of New Ulm.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, a brother-in-law and his father-in-law.
   He was born Jan. 15, 1939, in Mankato to Harley and Hildegarde (Reinke) Johnson. He graduated from Garden City High School. On June 6, 1960 he married Phyllis Denn at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center. He worked for Vernon Center Feed Service, Lewisville Motors for 28 years and was most recently employed with Kato Light Corporation in Mankato. He and his son Brent farmed together in the Garden City area. He was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where he had been an usher.

   Alfred Herbert Wendel, Sr., 90, of Mabel and formerly of Spring Grove died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at his son's home in Mabel.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove with burial in the church cemetery.
   Visitation is 5-8 p.m. tonight at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
   He is survived by sons, Alfred Jr, and wife Laurie of Mabel, and Donald and wife Michele of New Ulm; three step-grandchildren; brothers, Harry Wendel of Lansing, Iowa, and Bobbie and his wife Maureen Wendel of Fairmont.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sister, Lillie and brothers, Howard, Clarence and Kermit.
   He was born Jan. 1, 1909, in Churchtown, Iowa, to John W. and Bertha (Engelhorn) Wendel. He attended rural school in Churchtown and lived in Churchtown until moving to the Spring Grove area in 1930. He was an Oliver Implement dealer in Spring Grove for more than 30 years. He married Ruth M. Lien on Jan 1, 1940, in the Trinity Parsonage in Spring Grove. She died Dec. 21, 1998. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. He belonged to the Spring Grove Baseball Association where he was a board member.
