Raymond E. Albrecht, 76 of Sewickley, Pa. and formerly of Winthrop, died Saturday, October 2, 1999 at his home. Burial services were held at the Sweickley Cemetery on Oct.8 followed by a memorial service at the Presbyterian Church in Sewickly. He is survived by brother-in-law and sister, Morrell and Margaret Anderson of Gibbon; sister Joyce Petersen of Elmhurst, Ill.; four nieces and nephews and five grand-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Albrecht in 1991; his parents, and niece Heidi Petersen. He was born Dec.30, 1926 to Almin and Selma (Otto) Albrecht in Winthrop. After graduating from Winthrop High School he attended Gustavus Adolphus College for two years where he was on the football team. He then attended the University of Minnesota where he earned a civil engineering degree with "high distinction". He worked for the Minnesota Highway Department until he went into the service during the Korean Conflict. After being discharged he worked for the Dravo Steel Corperation in Pittsburgh, Pa. for six years. He married Margaret Koncy July 10, 1954. He then worked for H.H. Robertson Steel corperation of Ambridge, Pa. in research and development for the next 31 years. While there he developed 32 patents. After his retirement, he continued to do volunteer work. He was a member of the YMCA Senior Men's Club, the Sewickley American Legion and a member and deacon of the Presbyterian Church of Sewickley. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at East Sveadahl Lutheran Church in St.James with burial in the East Sveadahl Cemetery. Visitation will be 7:30-11 a.m. today at the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. She is survived by her son Erland and his wife LaVohn of Bloomington; granddaughters: Renee Cornwell and her husband James of Maple Grove, and Theresa Olson of Minneapolis; great-grandson Ryan Cornwell; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl; brother Victor Nelson; sisters: Edna Olson and Ellen Olson and her parents. She was born Jan. 23, 1903 in West Sveadalh to Carl and Ida Nelson and attended grade school there. She moved to St.James in 1917 where she entered St. James High School, graduating in 1921. She was a reporter for the St. James Plaindealer for a year. She then worked as a bookkeeper and a clerk for the Uhlhorn Hardware until she married Earl Olson on March 28, 1925 in the parsonage of Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James. The couple farmed in the Sveadahl community where they retired. She was active in the East Sveadahl Lutheran Church and the community. Mabel Sifferath, 87 of Buffalo Lake died Tuesday, October 12, 1999 at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake with burial in the Buffalo Lake City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church today. Memorials can be proferreded to the American Cancer Society and Renville County Hospice. Arrangements are through Hughes Funeral Home. She is survived by her children: Ruth Jacobson and her husband Lamont of Bella Vista, Ark., Janet Bredeken and her husband Richard of rural Starbuck; Warren Sifferath and his wife Ilene of Farmington, and Linda Sifferath of Kerkhoven; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers: LeRoy Scharmer and his wife Florence, and Elmer Scharmer and wife Marcells, all of of Buffalo Lake; sister Violet Bloomquist and her husband Merrit of Nampa, Idaho; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, daughter Donna Mae Sifferath, sisters Frances Scharmer in infancy, Myrtle Flemming, brothers Clifford, Ralph and Henry Scharmer. She was born Feb. .3, 1912 in Martinsburg Township, Renville County, to Herman and Helena (Mueller) Scharmer. She grew up in the Buffalo Lake area and attended District 40 rural schools. She married Walter August Sifferath April 2, 1930 at the Church of the Nazarene in Buffalo Lake. The couple farmed south of Buffalo Lake. She worked at the Buffalo Lake Nursing Home. She was active in the Church of the Nazarene as pianist, a Sunday School teacher, and held many offices. She was also involved with the Grafton Extension Home Study Group, and was the adult leader for the Grafton Merry Makers 4H club. John Huhn, 78, of Route 1 Gibbon died Friday, October 15, 1999 at the Gil Mor Manor in Morgan. Arrangements are pending with Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Curtis M. Anderson, 60 of Springfield died Friday, October 15, 1999, at the Springfield Medical Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with burial in the Springfield City Cemetery, Springfield. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. He is survived by his wife Janice Anderson of Springfield; son Greg and Bonnie Anderson of Springfield, daughter Susan and Todd Wilmes of Sanborn and grandchildren Paul and Lea Wilmes; mother Arella Anderson of Springfield; father and mother-in-law Lewis and Wilma Wellner of Springfield; brother Donald and Clarice Anderson of Springfield; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Alfred Anderson; sister Jean Brown and mother-in-law Rosella Wellner. He was born on Oct. 1, 1939 in Springfield to Alfred and Ardella (Ewald) Anderson. He grew up and attended school in Springfield, graduating from Springfield High School in 1957. He lived and farmed his entire life near Springfield. He served on the Sundown Township Board as clerk for 18 years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Springfield. He drove for Richert Bus Service and for many school extra curricular activities. |
