Alice Eyrich, 83, of St. Paul, formerly of New Ulm, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Highland Chateau Health Care Center, St. Paul. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ, New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm, and one hour before services Thursday at the church. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Robert Hoecherl of Richfield, Kathryn and Michael Kruger of St. Paul; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Marsha Eyrich of New Ulm; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Dorothy Anderson of Mission, Texas; sisters-in-law, Lenore Eyrich of New Ulm and Florence Eyrich of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd on Aug. 23, 1983; and a daughter, Carol. She was born May 15, 1917, in New Ulm to William and Esther (Brinkmann) Oetting. She graduated from New Ulm High School in 1935. She attended Mankato Teachers College for two years and taught school in Ogilvie and Good Thunder. She married Lloyd Eyrich on June 29, 1946, in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm where she worked as a substitute teacher. She moved to St. Paul in 1992 and lived at the Highland Chateau since 1995. She belonged to the United Church of Christ, New Ulm. Memorials are preferred to the United Church of Christ or the American Diabetes Association. Raymond D. Messner, 75, of Brownton, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today and 7:30-8 a.m. Wednesday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop, and from 9-9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Mae Messner; and daughter, Sandra Rae Messner in 1946. He was born on May 27, 1925, in Winthrop to Levi and Mae (Miller) Messner. He grew up in the Winthrop area and attended country school. He married Bernadine Ruth Schmidt on Sept. 12, 1945, in Lafayette. They farmed in several places including Gibbon, Stewart, St. Paul and Hutchinson. They settled in Brownton in 1965. The couple farmed until 1956, when they began working at 3M in Hutchinson. He retired from 3M in 1987. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop. Elizabeth 'Betty' Guetter, 74 of rural Wabasso died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at her home. Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today in St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso and one hour before services Wednesday at the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Daniel in May 1972; and brother Bernard "Barney" Plaetz. She was born Aug. 15, 1926, in Sheridan Township, Redwood County, Minnesota to Carl and Caroline (Vogel) Plaetz. She attended St. Anne's School and graduated from Wabasso High School. On April 26, 1948, she married Alois Guetter in St. Anne's Catholic Church. They farmed in Vail Township, Redwood County, west of Wabasso. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Catholic Aid Association, and St. Anne's C.C.W. in which she was an officer. Helen Hanson, 94, of Winthrop, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at the Arlington Municipal Hospital. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop and one hour before services, at the church on Saturday. She is survived by son, Ronald Hanson and his wife, Anne of Winthrop; daughter, Rhoda Drake and her husband, Ben of Brainerd; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Calvin Zumhofe and his wife, Burnette of Gaylord, and Kenneth Zumhofe of Gaylord; sisters, Dorothy Thompson of Bloomington and Caroline Zumhofe of Gaylord, and many nieces and nephews. She was born Aug. 25, 1906, in Gaylord to Edward and Emma (Haase) Carlin. She attended school in Gaylord. She was employed at Gaylord Mercantile for several years. She married Carl August Hanson on Aug. 12, 1933, in Minneapolis. They lived in Gaylord. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Winthrop. She was active in the past with the Ladies Aid. She also belonged to the Winthrop Golf Club and the bridge club in Winthrop. Lawrence Draeger, 72 of Gibbon, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Hutchinson Community Hospital. Services are 1:30 p.m.Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the church in Gibbon and will continue one hour before the service Wednesday at the church. Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop is handling the arrangements. He was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Sumter Township, McLeod County, to Arthur and Elda (Osterman) Draeger. He grew up in Sumter Township, where he attended country school. Her served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 16, 1952 until Dec. 31, 1953. He married Celie Mae Martha Schauer on Aug. 4, 1954, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. They lived in Brownton for a short time, before settling in Gibbon. He was employed with Goodman's produce in Gibbon, and later he worked for William Forbrook Construction in Gibbon and for Bussler and Son Construction in Winthrop. He entered the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center on May 9, 1996. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. He also was a former member of the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department. Clarence A. Jensen, 85, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the Sleepy Eye Hospital. Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. Rev. John Joyce, 90, of Jessenland Township, Sibley County, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Mala Strana Nursing Home, New Prague. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Jessenland Township, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Jessenland. Kolden Funeral Home in Henderson is in charge of arrangements. He is survived by a sister, Edith Joyce, of Jessenland Township; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers. He was born July 15, 1910, to Jeremiah and Mary Jan (Egan) Joyce in Jessenland Township. He attended Jessenland Township country schools. He completed his high school and minor seminary education at Crosier Seminary in Onamia. He completed his education at St. Paul Seminary. He was ordained on Oct. 7, 1944, at St. Paul's Cathedral. He served as an associate pastor at St. Stephen's Parish, Minneapolis, from February to June, 1945. He served at St. Stephen's Catholic Church at Anoka until 1947, at St. Patrick's Church at Shieldsville from 1951-1954 and as an administrative pastor until 1981. During his retirement, he worked on the family farm in Jessenland Township for the past 20 years. Mabel Clobes, 96, of St. James, formerly of Fairfax, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Home in St. James Services are 11 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fairfax, with burial in the church cemetery in Cairo Township, Renville County. Visitation will be at the church two hours prior to the service. Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax in charge of arrangements. She is survived by her son Lloyd and wife Valeria Clobes of Lafayette; daughters, Dorothy Hauge of Minneapolis, Beverly and husband Wayne Bakke of St. James, and Bernice and husband Lee Hinds of Bismarck, N.D.; daughter-in-law, Marion Clobes of Fairfax; sisters, Hannah Bregel of Gibbon and Lucille Kiecker of Bethel, sister-in-law, Lydia Berger of Gaylord; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Armin on Sept. 23, 1936; son, Raymond in 1993; grandson, Gregory Hinds in 1990; brothers, Herbert and Harvey Berger, and sister Evelyn Martens. She was born March 1, 1904, on the family farm in Moltke Township, Sibley County, to Otto and Anna (Damschen) Berger. She attended District 60 and Emanuel Parochial School, Wellington Township. On May 6, 1924, she married Armin Henry Clobes at Emanuel Lutheran Church. They farmed on the Clobes homestead farm in Wellington Township, Renville County, rural Fairfax. After her husband's death in 1936, she continued to live on the farm. She moved into Fairfax in 1951 and provided room and board for parochial school teachers and other people of the community. She worked at Renfair and Fairfax Community Home for 19 years before retiring in 1977. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax and was active in Ladies Aid and Senior Citizens. She became a resident of the Fairfax Community Home in 1995 and transferred to the Pleasant View Good Samaritan Home in St. James on Dec. 2, 1998. Anna Schweiss, 95, of Fairfax, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Divine Providence Community Home, Sleepy Eye. Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Fairfax, with burial in the church cemetery, Cairo Township. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Fairfax. Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. and prayers at 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. She is survived by her children, Francis and Kay of Fairfax, Raymond and Diane of Hector, Mary and Marlyn Moldan of Hanska, Edward and Linda of Springfield and Elizabeth and Gilbert Varland of Hector; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Beck of Mapleton; sisters-in-law, Gala Homan of Sleepy Eye and Dorothy Beck of Mapleton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill in 1986, grandson; brother, John Beck; and sisters Elizabeth Beck and Agnes Peshina. She was born Nov. 4, 1904, in Bird Island to Francis and Victoria "Dora" (Voltin) Beck. Her family moved to Bird Island and Mahnomen where they lived until her father died in 1919. The family returned to Fairfax, where she worked for several years before working in Minneapolis. She married William Schweiss on June 3, 1930 in Fairfax. They farmed in Wellington Township before retiring in 1960 and moving to Fairfax. Walden Polesky, 81, of Hector, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Renville County Hospital in Olivia Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church in Hector with burial in the Hector City Cemetery. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector, and continues one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. He is survived by brothers, Arnold Polesky and his wife Genevieve of Rochester, Edwin Polesky and his wife Dorothy of Sleepy Eye, Wilbert Polesky of Hector, and Emmanuel Polesky of Hector; sisters: Eveline Drill of Courtland, Evangeline Madsen and her husband Linus of Morgan, and Edwina Kiecker and her husband Victor of Fairfax; sister-in-law, Mary Polesky of Roseville; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Maynard; brother, the Rev. Bernhard Polesky; and sister, Lorraine Polesky. He was born Aug. 25, 1919, in Martinsburg Township, Renville County. Minnesota, to Hugo and Hildegard (Buboltz) Polesky. He attending school in Hector and graduated from Buffalo Lake High School. He farmed south of Hector. He played baseball for 30 years with the Hector Baseball Team.
