   Gwendolyn 'Gwen' Bronsema, 101, of Redwood Falls, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.
   Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, and one hour prior to services Wednesday.
   She is survived by sister, Wauneitta "Nete" Breitkreutz, of Littleton, Colo., and many nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by a son in infancy; son, Dick in 1995; brother, Richard; and sisters, Gladys Kunde and Myfanwyn (Bud) Castle.
   She was born Jan. 22, 1900, in Hampton, Iowa, to Dixon and Myrtle (Vokes) Hyndman. She married Ike Bronsema on Aug. 12, 1920, in Olivia. Around 1929 they moved to Delhi Township and then Paxton Township and in 1948 moved to Redwood Falls. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and church circle.

   Alvin J. Helget, 83, of Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at the Franklin Health Care Center in Franklin.
   Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in the church cemetery.
   Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Wednesday at the former Minnesota Valley Funeral Home Chapel, 521 W. Main St., Sleepy Eye. There will be a rosary by the Sleepy Eye Knights of Columbus Council 3134 at 6:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., today at the funeral home.
   Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
   He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Kathleen Helget, and Darrel and Vivian Helget, all of St. James, Gerald and Dorothy Helget of Sleepy Eye, Marlin and Carol Helget of New Ulm, Duane and Ruth Helget of St. James, Dale Helget of Rochester, and Lorin and Denise Helget of Sleepy Eye; 41 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sylvester and Helen Helget of Sleepy Eye, Victor and Valeria Helget of New Ulm, and Delmar and Agnes Helget of Sleepy Eye; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ervin and Marian Fischer of Sleepy Eye; and a sister-in-law Arnolda Fischer of Sleepy Eye.
   He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Helget, on Nov. 25, 1998; parents, Otto and Clara Helget; grandchildren Shannon Helget, Craig Helget, and Janelle Helget; a brother and a sister both in infancy; brother and sister-in-law, Wendelin and Veronica "Fronie" Helget; brother-in-law, Willard Fischer; and a sister-in-law, Caroline Helget.
   He was born on Jan. 29, 1918, in Sleepy Eye to Otto and Clara (Haala) Helget. He attended school in Stark Township, Brown County. He married Leona Fischer on June 3, 1940, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They farmed in Albin Township, Brown County. After the death of his wife he moved to the Countryside Apartments in Sleepy Eye. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, the Sleepy Eye Knights of Columbus Council 3134, and the Sleepy Eye Eagles Club 3428. He had served on the Stark Baseball Board for many years.

   Lillian G. Carlson, 91, formerly of New Ulm, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
   Arrangements are pending with Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.

   Phil De La Cruz, 50, of Madelia, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at his home.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia, with burial in the church cemetary.
   Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today, and an hour prior to services Wednesday, at the church.
   Pilgrim Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
   He is survived by his wife Janice; daughters, Jamie Arizmedi and husband Ernesto, Annette De La Cruz, all of Madelia; son , Jason and wife Summer of Madelia; sister, Olivia De La Cruz of Madelia; and many nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
   He was born Nov. 21, 1950, in Waco, Texas, to Juan and Victoria (Salas) De La Cruz. He grew up in Waco and later in Winnebago where he graduated from high school in 1970. He married Janice Yess on May 2, 1975, in South Dakota. They lived in Madelia, where he worked as a mechanic and at Tony Downs Foods. He retired in 2001. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia.

   Norbert J. Mueller, 87, of St. Paul, died Oct. 20, 2001, at Fariview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming.
   Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of St. Bernard, 197 Geranium St., St. Paul, with burial in Elmhurst Cemetery in St. Paul.
   Visitiation is 4-8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Bradshaw Funeral and Cremation Service, 1078 Rice St., St. Paul.
   He is survived by his daughter, Darlene and husband Dave Geiger of St. Paul; four grandchildren; sister, Olivia Odegaard of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and brother, Leander and wife Loretta of Prior Lake.
   He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; infant son, Ronald; parents Jacob and Dorothy; brothers, Raymond, Harold and Herbert; and sisters Lillian Reinarts, Stella Liebl, Clara Bushard, Lucille Mueller and Elsie Newton.
   He was born Feb. 13, 1914, in New Ulm, to Jacob and Dorothy (Schweiss) Mueller. He moved to St. Paul at age 26. He operated an automobile mechanics busines. He married Bernice James in December 1949 in St. Paul.

   Betty Schmidt, 71, of 400 N. Jefferson St. in New Ulm, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
   Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in the City Cemetery.
   Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
   She is survived by her brothers, Gilbert "Bud" Rose of New Ulm, Melvin Rose and his wife, Josephine of Sleepy Eye, and Richard Rose and his wife, Darlain of Arlington; special nephews, Les Rose and his wife, JoAnn of New Ulm, and Mike Rose of Alamo, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbert Schmidt on Dec. 24, 1989; sisters, Ruth Olson, and Lorraine Bartz; and sister-in-law, Marlene Rose.
   She was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Sleepy Eye, to Arthur and Lillian (Janisch) Rose. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran School in New Ulm. She married Wilbert Schmidt on May 6, 1961, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. She did daycare in homes, worked at Tony Downs in Madelia, Pietrus in Sleepy Eye, and later at Highland Manor in New Ulm. She was active in the Senior Citizens in New Ulm.
