Wednesday, November 10, 1999      Ruth Dummer, 92, of Mason City, Iowa, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999. at Heritage Care Center, Mason City.    Services are 1 p.m. today at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery, New Ulm.    Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church.    Major-Erickson Funeral Home, Mason City, is handling arrangements.    She is survived by several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law Kittie Mahlstadt.    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers; and four sisters.    Memorials can be made to the Ruth Mahlstadt Dummer Memorial Fund.    She was born Dec. 10, 1906, in Franklin County, Iowa, to William Fredrick and Cora Emily (Cutler) Mahlstadt. She attended grade school in Aredale, Iowa and graduated from Mason City High School in 1928. She attended Iowa State Teachers' College, Cedar Falls, and taught for more than 19 years. She married John Dummer on July 11, 1950, in New Ulm. She lived in New Ulm for 40 years. She returned to Mason City in 1990, where she made her home with her niece. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mason City.    Lavina Rice, 92, of Madelia, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.    Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madelia, with burial in the church cemetery.    Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church.    Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, is handling arrangements.    She is survived by her daughter, Gervaise Brandt and husband Malcolm of Madelia; granddaughter, Dardy Berge and husband Paul of Holman, Wis.; grandsons, Dennis Rice and wife Angela of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Jeffrey Rice of Mankato; two great-granddaughters; sister-in-law, Jean Cole of Wisconsin Dells, Wis.; three sisters; step-brothers; step-sisters; and nieces and nephews.    She was preceded in death by her husband; sons, Veron and Gerald; an infant daughter and son; and three grandsons.    She was born Feb. 8, 1906, in Rosendale Township, Watonwan County, to Christian and Else (Ovre) Christenson. She grew up in Albion Township, rural St. James. She attended rural schools. She married George True Rice on Dec. 22, 1925, in St. James. They farmed in the area until 1964, when they moved into Madelia. George died in September 1970. She has been a resident of the nursing home since October 1997.    Robert McMartin, 59, formerly of Madelia, died Monday, Nov. 7, 1999 at Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio.    Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Madelia with burial in Riverside Cemetery.     Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia.     A complete notice will appear in a later edition.    Jason Waldner , 15, of 66 Jonathon Drive, New Ulm, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, near Lake Crystal in a hunting accident    Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial to follow in the Garden City Cemetery.    Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to service at the church.    He is survived by his parents, Scott and Gail Gilman Waldner; sister Amy Waldner, of New Ulm; maternal grandparents, Edward and Phyllis Gilman of Lake Crystal; paternal grandmother, Mae Waldner of Hector; aunts, uncles, cousins.    He was preceded in death by his grandfather Gene Waldner, and uncle Gary Gilman.    He was born Jan. 1, 1984 in Gaylord to Scott and Gail (Gilman) Waldner. The family moved to New Ulm in 1985. He attended New Ulm public schools and was currently a sophomore. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Ulm. He played hockey with the New Ulm Hockey Association, football and fast pitch softball. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 25 and was working on his Eagle Scout designation.    Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.    Orpha Huhn, 87, of Oak Hills Assisted Living Center and formerly of 716 S. Washington Street in New Ulm died Sunday, November 7, 1999 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.    Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery.    Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-11 a.m. Thursday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and continues one hour before the service Thursday at the church .    She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Ken Werner of Oconto Falls, Wis.; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Paul and Marla Huhn of Fargo, North Dakota, and Ronald and Lola Huhn of St. Paul; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold H. Huhn on Jan. 14, 1998; brothers, Harvey Kiecker, and Arthur Kiecker; and a sister, Adela Drill.    She was born Sept. 22, 1912, in Cairo Township, Renville County, to Paul and Friederike "Rica" (Steffen) Kiecker. She moved to New Ulm in 1925. She graduated from New Ulm Public High School in 1929. She graduated from the Union Hospital School of Nursing in New Ulm in 1933. She married Harold H. Huhn on Oct. 3, 1935, at the Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. She worked as an office nurse for Dr. Saffert, and at Loretto and Union hospitals in New Ulm. During the last 23 years of her career, she worked as an operating room nurse supervisor at Union Hospital. She retired in 1975. She was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm and its altar guild. She was a member of the quilters group at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. She moved to the Garden Terrace Apartments in 1997. In September of 1999, she moved to the Oak Hills Assisted Living Center.    In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church or the German Park Restoration Project.    Clayton R. Mielke, 68, of Mankato, died at his home Monday.    Memorial services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Mankato Mortuary with burial in Minneopa Cemetery. The family will be at American Legion Post 11 in Mankato after the services to visit with friends.    Memorials are preferred to American Heart Association.    He is survived by his wife, Christine Mielke of Mankato; daughters, Kim Meyer and husband Rod of Blaine and Wendy Mielke of Crystal; son, Todd Mielke and wife Christina of Eden Prairie; eight grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.    He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.    Clayton was born July 12, 1931, in Bernadotte, to Louis and Trena (Andersen) Mielke. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1949. He received his associate business degree from Mankato Commercial College. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Christine Williams on Aug. 22, 1953, in Mankato. He worked as a property/casualty claims representative for MSI Insurance in Rochester and Mankato for 20 years. He previously worked at Retail Credit in Austin. After his retirement, Clayton worked for Lager's and Iowa Glass. He was a member of American Legion Post 11 and a former member of Toastmasters.    Elaine Becker, 76, of Madelia, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at her home.    Funeral services are 10:30 Friday at Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia with burial in the Vernon Center Cemetery.    Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia. A complete notice will appear in a later edition.    Zelda Burgstahler, 69, of Stewart died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Glencoe Area Health Center.    Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake with burial in Zion Evangelical Cemetery.    Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home in Stewart, and continues one hour before the service Thursday at the church.    She is survived by her husband; stepmother, Marie Friese of Sioux Falls, S.D.; children, Polly Wenger and husband Mark of LaCrosse, Wis.; Grant Burgstahler and wife Debbie of Winthrop; Kay Baumetz and husband Steve of Hutchinson, and Reed Burgstahler and wife Lynae of Stewart; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Don Friese and wife Shirley of Balaton; Charles Friese and wife Joan of Fulda; Curt Friese and wife Cheryl of Balaton; sister, Yvonne Thompson and husband Don of Willmar; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.    She was preceded in death by her parents.    She was born March 17, 1930, in Parker, S.D. to Arie and florence (Kasten) Friese. At age 12 her family moved to Balaton. She graduated in 1948 from Balaton High School. She attended Northwestern College in Minneapolis and received a teaching degree from St. Cloud Teachers College. She taught third grade in Granite Falls. She married John Burgstahler on July 18, 1954, at the Evangelical Free Church in Balaton. The couple farmed in the Stewart area. She was a leader for the Grafton Merry Makers 4-H Club and a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake.    Michael Kuelbs, 50, of Klements, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Redwood Falls Hospital.    Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Clements with burial in the church cemetery.    Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. There will be a parish prayer service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. today and a Catholic Aid rosary at 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.    He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; daughters, Kara Kuelbs of Apple Valley and Mandy Kuelbs of Menomonie, Wis.; son, Cory Kuelbs; parents, Isidore and Irene Kuelbs of Redwood Falls; father and mother-in-law, Denton (Red) and Eileen Kohlhof of Hackensack; brother, Doug and his wife Rita Kuelbs of Clements; sisters, Pam and husband Del Bratsch of Annandale, Jean and, husband Steve Ward of Hutchinson, Brenda Kohlhof of Redwood Falls; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Greg and wife Mary Kohlhoff of New Ulm, Brad and wife Julie Kohlhof of Sanborn, Chris and wife Aimee Kohlhof of Los Angeles, Kathy and husband Pete Kjohaug of Clearbrook, Jody and husband Tim Curtin of Walker; many nieces and nephews.    He was preceded in death by his grandparents and mother-in-law, Patricia Kohlhof.    He was born Sept. 7, 1949, in Springfield, to Isidore and Irene (Reiner) Kuelbs. He attended St. Joseph Elementary School in Clements. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1967 and Southwest State University in Marshall in 1972. He married Becky Kohlhof on Nov. 15, 1975. He worked at Clements Lumber until 1978 when he started farming full time. He served as chairman of Springfield School Board, chairman of Sundown Township Board, assistant fire chief of the Clements Fire Department and was eucharistic minister at St. Joseph Church in Clements. He helped coach midget softball in Clements and coached youth wrestling in Springfield . He also played slow pitch softball in Clements.
