   Emma Pagel, 54, of Winthrop, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
   Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bismarck Township, Sibley County.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at the church and continues from noon until time of services Saturday at the church.
   Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop, is handling arrangements.

   Helen Doering, 69, of Winthrop, died Nov. ,3 1999, at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
   Double funeral services will be held, with Helen's sister, Violet Hedine, at 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8 a.m. Saturday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop and continue one hour before services at the church on Saturday. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel in Winthrop.
   Helen is survived by her husband, Edgar "Red" Doering; sons, David Doering and wife Susan of Anchorage, Alaska, and Michael Doering of Winthrop; daughters, Debra "Debbie" Nass and her Gerald of Hutchinson and Monica Jefferies and husband Richard of Mapleton; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Margaret Kuester of Winthrop, Dora Kuester of Winthrop and Hazel Kuester of Long Prairie; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
   She was born April 18, 1930, in Bismarck Township, Sibley County to William and Minnie (Schultz) Kuester. She attended country school. She married Edgar F. Doering Dec. 28, 1947, at St. John's. They lived in New Ulm for a short time before settling in Winthrop She worked at Kraft and 3M in New Ulm and waitressed at the Transit House and the Rainbow Cafe in Winthrop, the Green Lantern in Gaylord, and she did custodial work at the Army Reserve building in Winthrop. She worked at H.T.I. in Hutchinson and Hands, Inc., in Winthrop. She was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and as a devotional reader at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center. She was also active in the Bible study group and W.E.L.C.A. She belonged to the Winthrop American Legion Auxiliary Post 314, was a Fair Share volunteer and in the past. She served as a den mother for Cub Scouts.
   

   Elmer Peterson, 97, of Lamberton, died Monday at Valley View Manor in Lamberton.
   A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Chapel in Jeffers with burial at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Cemetery in New Ulm.
   Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at Anderson-Schmidt with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
   He is survived by his children, Marion A. Peterson Schmeling of Twin Falls, Idaho, Beata C. (Mrs. Dr. Thomas) Edwards of Salem, Va., and Morris P. Peterson of Arlington, Va.; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, seven sisters and three brothers.
   He was born Aug. 20, 1902, in Cokato to Peter and Amelia Peterson. He grew up in Cokato, Comfrey and Jeffers areas and attended schools in these communities. He married Marie J. Kuehn on May 20, 1929, in New Ulm. The couple lived in Jeffers. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffers. He did much volunteer work taking care of the church heating system and the general overall appearance of the church. He also served on the Jeffers school board and the village council. He worked 33 years at the Jeffers Cooperative Creamery, and he worked at the Jeffers school as a custodian from the early 1960s until the early 1970s.

   Elaine Becker, 76, of Madelia, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at her home.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Salem Lutheran Church, Madelia, with burial in the Vernon Center Cemetery.
   Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, and will continue one hour before services at the church.
   She is survived by daughters, Harriet Sowers and husband Dan of Vernon Center, Charlotte Fatland and husband Robert of Fargo, N.D., Arlys Hansen of Maple Grove and Avis Wakey and husband Thomas of Northrop; son, Arlon and wife Jackie of Garden City; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Arlo Jr.; brothers, Kenneth and Arlo; sister, Darlene; and grandchildren, Mark and Darin Sowers.
   She was born May 9, 1923, in rural Nicollet County, to William and Freda (Tetzloff) Pfeil. She grew up in rural Nicollet, Lewisville, Garden City and Madelia, where she graduated from high school in 1941. She married Arlo Becker on March 27, 1942. They farmed in rural Garden City until 1949 and then in rural Madelia until retiring in 1978. They wintered in Apache Junction, Ariz. for 27 years. Arlo died in May 1993. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and a former member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Vernon Center. She was active with the Ladies Aid and Bible Study and was also a member of NFO, Farm Bureau and Farmers Union.

    Violet L. Hedine, 83, of Winthrop, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Arlington Municipal Hospital.
   Double funeral services will be held, with Violet's sister, Helen Doering, 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8 a.m. Saturday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Saturday. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel in Winthrop.
   She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Margaret and Dora Kuester of Winthrop, and Hazel Kuester of Long Prairie; brother-in-law, Edgar "Red" Doering of Winthrop; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
   She was born March 23, 191a6, in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, to William and Minnie (Schultz) Kuester. She attended country school. She married Allen S. Hedine on Feb. 24, 1955, at St. John's. The couple made their home in Winthrop. She worked on the family farm, waitressed at the Rainbow Cafe, reupholstered furniture and painted houses with her husband. She also worked at Green Giant, A.D.C., in Fairfax and at Hands, Inc., in Winthrop. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop, where she was active with W.E.L.C.A. She also belonged to the Winthrop American Legion Auxiliary Post 314.

   Robert R. McMartin, 59, of Canton, Ohio, died Monday at Mercy Hospital in Canton.
   Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Madelia and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
   Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia and also one hour prior to services at the church.
   He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Canton; son, Randall of Indianapolis, Ind,; daughter, Melinda of Cincinnati; mother, Hazel McMartin of Madelia; sister, Nancy Henderson and husband William of Philadelphia; brothers, Donald and wife Karen of New Jersey, and Bill and wife Joyce of Oklahoma City.
   He was preceded in death by his father.
   He was born May 26, 1940 in Madelia to Neil and Hazel (Godnauer) McMartin in Madelia. He grew up in Madelia and graduated from Madelia High School in 1958. He graduated from the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1965 during the Vietnam War. He married Marilyn Lang on Aug. 3, 1968, in St. Paul. At the time of his death, he was the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles in Canton.

   Pearl Koenig, 90, of Madelia, formerly of Darfur, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
   Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.
