   Owen Kuehl , 80, of St. James, died on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in St. James, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
   Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today, with parish prayer service at 4:30 p.m., and continues 7:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James.
   He is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons and daughters-in-law, David R. and Sue Kuehl of Silverdale, Wash., Keith and Mary Ann Kuehl of Winona, Dwight and Betty Kuehl of St. James and Kevin and Lauree Kuehl of Trimont; daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and Trevor Nau of St. James and Karen and Joe Dahl of St. James; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Ona and Rueben Kohn of St. James, Celista Hockel of Odin and Verna Jonson of Wichita, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Denise in infancy; brother, Russell; and sisters, Ruth Hammar and Alice Carmody.
   He was born on June 18, 1921, to Fredrich and Erma (Meier) Kuehl in rural Ormsby. He attended country school through eighth grade. He helped at home until moving to California where he worked on various jobs. He returned to Minnesota and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 10, 1942. The majority of his service was in the South Pacific aboard the USS Chenango. Following discharge in 1945, he returned to St. James where he worked for various electrical contractors. He married Margaret Sturm on June 18, 1947. The couple lived in St. James. After taking night classes to obtain his master electrician license, he started Kuehl's Electric in 1971. He worked with his wife and sons in the business until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, VFW Post 1914 and American Legion Post 33, both in St. James. He also established a lawn mowing service with his grandchildren.

   Irene Cornish, 88, of rural Vernon Center, died on Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center, with burial in the Vernon Center Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to the church service.
   She is survived by her husband, Wesley; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Kathy Cornish of rural Nicollet, Jerry and Rita Cornish of rural Vernon Center, Greg and Barb Cornish of Nice, Calif., Michael Cornish of rural Vernon Center and Tony Cornish of rural Good Thunder; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Gordon Larson of Brooklyn Park, Maureen Sens of rural Vernon Center, Michelle and William Negaard of rural Vernon Center and Denise and Robert Grant of Winnebago; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brother, Richard and Joan Pahl Jr. of Mankato; and nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by one brother; two sisters; and three grandchildren.
   She was born on March 19, 1913, to Richard and Rose (Pick) Pahl at Vernon Center. After high school, she was graduated from Mankato Commercial College. She then worked at Waldorf Bank. She married Wesley Cornish on Sept. 19, 1935, in Vernon Center. She was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

    Mildred Schroeder , 86 of Owatonna, formerly of Fairfax, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at the Owatonna Hospital.
   Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Fairfax with burial in the Bethel Cemetery in Cairo Township.
   Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel and one hour before services at the church.
   She is survived by her husband, Arthur Schroeder, Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center; sons and daughters-in-law, Virgil and Carole Schroeder of Owatonna, Keith and Judy Schroeder of Comfrey; daughters and sons-in-law, LaVon and Gordon Funck of Sun City, Ariz., and Diane and Larry Nelson of Peoria, Ariz; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews
   She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Alice Firle; daughter-in-law, Arlyce Schroeder; grandchildren, Dale and Bruce Schroeder; and sister, Eldora Gilbey Skalicky.
   Mildred Lucile Schroeder was born on Sept. 8, 1915, in Cairo Township, Renville County, Minn., to Gustav and Alice (Jensen) Firle. On July 6, 1934, she married Arthur Schroeder. They lived in the Fairfax area until 1989, when they moved to Hastings. They also spent nine winters in Sun City, Arizona.
   Memorials preferred to Decision Hills, Hastings United Methodist Church, Owatonna Area Hospice and the Fairfax United Methodist Church.

   Morris Nelson, 86, of Rt. 1 Winthrop, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at the Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
   Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bernadotte Lutheran Church in Bernadotte with burial in the church cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Ernest Gedig American Legion Post 314 of Winthrop.
    Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
   He is survived by his wife, Lailah Nelson of rural Winthrop; daughters and son-in-law, Linda Nelson of Winthrop, Dawn and Lee Hendrycks of Arlington; sons, David Nelson and John Nelson both of rural Winthrop; seven grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Erna Nelson of Lafayette.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Verna Foster; and brothers, Bernard Nelson, Kenneth Nelson, and Evan Nelson.
   He was born on May 4, 1915, in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County, to Jens Christian "Christ" and Emily (Monson) Nelson. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 , attained the rank of Chief Aviation Machinist Mate, served in the Southern Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Lailah Ellingson on Dec. 27, 1946, at the home of Lailah's parents, Ole and Alma Ellingson, in Bernadotte Township Nicollet County. They moved to California in February 1947, and he worked for a variety of manufacturing companies as a machinist. They moved back to Minnesota in 1953, and then he worked as a machinist at New Ulm Manufacturing. In 1955 they purchased a farm in Alfsborg Township, Sibley County. He retired in 1977 from Raygo Manufacturing. He was a member of the Bernadotte Lutheran Church in Bernadotte and a member of the Ernest Gedig American Legion Post 314 in Winthrop.
   

   Roy Sassenberg, 79, of 1621 S. Washington St., New Ulm, died on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
   Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of arrangements.

   Gladys P. GilbertsonLAKE CRYSTAL -- Gladys P. Gilbertson, 90, of Lake Crystal and formerly of the Butternut area, died on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at her home.
   Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Butternut, with burial in Butternut Cemetery.
   Visitation will be one hour prior to the church service.
   Lake Crystal Mortuary handled arrangements.
   She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Marilyn and Marvin Hawker of Hutchinson, and Sharon Lewis of Butternut; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Phillip and wife Bonnie Mickelson; sister-in-law, Bessie Mickelson of Lake Crystal; and other relatives.
   She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters; and three brothers.
   She was born on April 15, 1911, to Martin and Lena (Larson) Mickelson in Butternut Valley Township. She attended country school and Madelia High School. She worked at the Butternut Store before marrying Lester Gilbertson on Aug. 21, 1933. She became a homemaker and active farm wife. She worked as a cook at Lakeview Restaurant in Lake Crystal for many years following her husband's death. She was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Butternut where she was Sunday School Superintendent and belonged to Ladies Aid.

   Dolores G. Zobel, 82, formerly of the St. Michael's Apartments in New Ulm, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center.
   Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and will continue on Wednesday from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. at the Cathedral on Tuesday. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
   She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Ronda Jean and Gerald Hatfield of Ceylon, and Rhona Ann Wallert of Fairmont; sons and daughters-in-law, Howard "Pete" and Rosemary Zobel of New Ulm, and Roger and Helen Zobel of Faribault; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Loretta Olson of New Ulm; and brother and sister-in-law, Eugene "Casey" and Emma Konz of New Ulm; and two nieces.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Zobel on Feb. 19, 1988; granddaughter, Mary Ann Zobel; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Peter Konz Jr. and Edward Konz; sister, Emma Konz, sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Roman Domeier; brother-in-law, Marlin Olson Sr.; and a nephew.
   She was born June 14, 1919, in New Ulm to Peter and Anna (Dewanz) Konz. She attended Holy Trinity Catholic School in New Ulm. On May 30, 1938, she married Howard W. Zobel at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm. She worked in the laundry department at the Loretto Hospital in New Ulm for a short time and then stayed at home and took care of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the Christian Mothers Society, the Ministry of Praise, and was a past local president, state vice president and state chairman of the American War Dads Auxiliary.


   Eldon (Bud) Parker, 73, of Redwood Falls, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at his home.
