Bernice H. Fritz, 89, of Sleepy Eye died Thursday, Nov.18, 1999 at the Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Divine Providence Nursing Home in Sleepy Eye, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato is handling the arrangements. She is survived by a daughter, Debbie and her husband Roger Harmon of Fridley; a son, Steven and wife Debbie Fritz of West Lafayette, Ind.; a daughter-in-law Barbara Fritz of Apple Valley; five grandchildren; a brother, Ray Schulte of Minneapolis; sisters, Florence Crawford and husband Jim of Minneapolis and Irene Thelen of California; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo in July 1999; a son John in Sept. 1999, and a sister, Sister Mary Eileen. She was born Jan. 23, 1910 in Dorchester, Iowa to John and Katherine (Lyons) Schulte. She married Leo Fritz on June 20, 1939 in Dorchester. She attended nursing school in LaCrosse, Wis. and worked as a private nurse in Chicago. She and Leo owned and operated Leo's City Cafe in Sleepy Eye for 35 years. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Christian Women's Society of St. Mary's Church. She was also a member of the Red Cross Volunteer Nurses. Carlyn Owens, 79, of Fargo, N.D., died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999 at her home. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo, with burial in Wheatland Cemetery, Wheatland, N.D. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday at the church, with a prayer service 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, is in charge of arrangements. She is survived by her children, David and wife Karen of Bloomington, Richard of Big Lake, Daniel of Fargo, Kathy Gustafson of Granite Falls, Dennis Owens of Washington, Doug and wife Sandra of Fargo, Mary and husband Ray Hutchinson of Anchorage, Alaska, and Sara and husband Steve Granger of Fargo; adopted family, Charlie, Bill, Robert and Julie Griebel, and Mary Grausam and Myrtle Brand; brothers, Joe and wife Evie Palmer of Connecticut, and Max and wife Jessie Palmer of Brainerd; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and five siblings. She was born July 22, 1920 in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, to George and Theresa Palmer. Her mother died when she was a small child and she was taken in by her sister and brother-in-law Virginia and Oscar Griebel. She married Red Owens on May 8, 1941 in Searles. The couple lived in Minneapolis from 1941 until 1952, when they moved to Fargo. They retired in 1981 and moved to Wheatland, N.D. Fred died in January 1987. She has lived in the Fargo area since 1989. She was a member of Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo and was a volunteer with Lutheran Social Services and the Senior Companion Program. Vernon Hall, 86, of Fairmont formerly of New Ulm, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at the Lakeveiw Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Funeral arrangements are pending with the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. Lloyd Neuenschwander, 73, of Kokomo, Indiana, formerly of Hanska, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at the Howard Community Hospital in Kokomo.
