Alice M. Heller, age 94, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, formerly of Winthrop, Minnesota, and Gibbon, Minnesota, passed away, Thursday, November 20, 2003, at Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 24, 2003, at Faith Lutheran Church, in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be Sunday 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. and continue Monday 8:00 to 9:00 A.M. at the Dobratz-Hantge Downtown Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services at the church. Alice was preceded in death by her Parents, Herman and Paulina Stark; Son, in infancy, Waldemar Doering; First Husband, Otto Doering; Second Husband, Marvin Heller. Alice Minnie Heller was born on May 2, 1909, in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Herman and Paulina (Lietzau) Stark. She was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed in her faith as a youth in Bismarck. Township, Minnesota. Alice received her education at Bismarck Country School. She was united in marriage to Otto Doering on January 20, 1929, by Reverend F. W. Tesh, in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Alice and Otto farmed in the rural Gibbon areas of Moltke Township, and Bismarck Township. Alice and Otto were blessed with 13 years of marriage before Otto passed away on July 30, 1942. On September 27, 1942, Alice was united in marriage to Marvin Heller, by Reverend O. W. Rohde, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Minnesota. Alice and Marvin lived in Gibbon and then moved to Hutchinson, Minnesota in 1974, and later moved to Winthrop, Minnesota. Alice and Marvin were blessed with 53 years of marriage before Marvin passed away on September 8, 1995. Alice worked at various jobs, including waitressing, working at a creamery, was employed for a short time at 3M and also at an egg factory. Alice never really retired. She worked part-time at Hands in Winthrop, Minnesota, until she was 90 years old. She took special interest in caring for her yard and raspberry bushes. She continued to mow her own grass through 2002. Alice enjoyed traveling, dancing, (especially Square Dancing), loom rug making and spending time outdoors. Her other favorite pastimes were playing bingo, playing cards, (especially Sheephead), and playing slot machines. When living alone in Winthrop became a concern, she moved to Prince of Peace in Hutchinson. She resided there until February of 2003, until she needed assistance with her daily care and became a resident of Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She passed away there on November 20, 2003. Blessed be her memory. Alice is survived by her: daughters, Mildred Doering, of Minneapolis MN; Eileen Kokesch of New Ulm, MN; sons, Norman Doering and his special friend Jean Anderson, of Brownton, MN; Larry Heller and his wife Andrea of Hutchinson, MN; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; brothers, Herman Stark of Glencoe, MN,Marvin Stark of Gibbon, MN; sisters-in-law, Helen Stark of Glencoe, MN, Lucille Stark of Hutchinson, MN; Ethel Whalen of Park City, UT; Margaret Miskowiec of Minneapolis, MN; Marion Cannon of Minneapolis, MN; and many relatives and friends. Betty Pankonin, 81, of Sanborn, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, in Sanborn. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Red Rock UM Church. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton. She was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Flandreau, S.D., to Arthur and Laura (Steinke) Kansanback. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, her children, Laureen Raymond of River Falls, Wis.; Russell Pankonin of Sanborn; Janice Dow of Seal Beach, Calif.; Judith Williams of Brookings, Ore.; Roxanne Fisher of Westminster, Calif.; Willard Pankonin of Lakeville; Dr Vincent Pankonin of Perham; 29 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers Donald Kansanback of Perry, Ga., and Arnold Kansanback of Windom. Walter Roepke, 66, of Litchfield, formerly of Stewart, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, in Litchfield. A celebration of his life is 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Fernando, Round Grove Township, McLeod County, with burial was in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Cemetery. He was born on Oct. 1, 1937, to Ervin and Clara (Kuehn) Roepke, in Round Grove Township (rural Stewart), McLeod County. He served in the National Guard from 1954 to 1958, with active duty for six months at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He is survived by his daughters, Kristine Ebent Waconia, and Kimberly Norbie of Edina; four grandchildren; brothers, Lyle Roepke of Stewart and Chuck Roepke of Winthrop; and sister, Val Uecker of Brownton. Charles "Chuck" Doeltz, 64, of Edina, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, in Edina. Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel, Sleepy Eye. Visitation is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye He was born July 29, 1939, to Karl and Eileen Doeltz. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Enterprise. He is survived by his sister, Betsy Kozial of Bloomingdale, Ill.
