Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. George Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7-10 a.m. Wednesday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. Catholic Aid will recite the rosary at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, and a parish prayer service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife, Marie of St. George; daughters, Valerie Somerson of Charlotte, N.C., Helene Decker and her husband Tim of Ashland Neb., Cynthia Benter and her husband Danny of Salem, S.D., MeLora "Lori" Rosson of Round Rock, Texas, JoEllen Fischer and her husband Robert of Gibbon; son, Charles Brandel of St. George; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Helen Kenning of New Ulm; sisters-in-law, Ramona Danhouser and her husband Eddie of Hutchinson, Kan., Helen Olson and her husband Lynn of New Ulm; brother-in-law, Elray "Buddy" Kenning and his wife Phyllis of Mankato; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and father-in-law, John Kenning. He was born Aug. 23, 1932, in New Ulm to George and Ida (Maidl) Brandel. He attended St. George parochial school and Cathedral High School in New Ulm. He worked for the former Ranweiler Skelly and Fluegge Skelly stations in New Ulm. He married Marie Kenning on Sept. 17, 1952, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm until 1959, when they moved to a farm in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, near St. George. They farmed while he also worked in the milk hauling business for 25 years as well as Kraft Foods in New Ulm. They moved into St. George in 1994. At the time of his death, he was working for Custom Courier Corp. of Wisconsin, picking up milk samples for AMPI throughout southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. He was a member of the St. George Catholic Church and the Catholic Aid Society. John H. McWhorter, 84, formerly of 105 - 7th Ave NE in Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center . Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the church cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. Visitation is 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. He is survived by his daughters and sons-law, Roseann and Herb Huiras of Sleepy Eye, Elaine and Chuck Nalapinski of Stillwater, Mary Wolle of Lake Crystal, Lois and Alfredo Lee of Honolulu, Hawaii; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Shirley Abel of Pine, Ariz., Edward Abel, Jim Abel and Lewis and Eva Abel, all of Sleepy Eye; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Cecelia "Teddy" McWhorter on May 5, 1989. He was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Elkton, S.D., to Leon and Frances (Schweirkt) McWhorter. He served in the United States Army for 20 years and was stationed in the South Pacific in World War II. He married Cecelia "Teddy" Abel on Jan. 31, 1967, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They lived in Sleepy Eye. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Viola "Olie" Zupfer, 94, of 919 N. Washington St., in New Ulm died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center. Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the City Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a rosary by the St. Anne's Court, National Catholic Society of Foresters at 5:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Lillian Juenemann, a resident of the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye, and Lorna Zupfer, a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm; two nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry "Hank" Zupfer, on April 13, 1979; and brothers, Elmer, Robert, and Hubert Juenemann. She was born July 16, 1907, in New Ulm to August and Wanda (Zoller) Juenemann. She graduated from New Ulm Public High School. On Oct. 19, 1935, she married Henry "Hank" Zupfer at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. She worked at the J. C. Penney Store in New Ulm for 23 years. She became a resident of the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye on Oct. 3, 2001. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, St. Anne's Court and National Catholic Society of Foresters. The family prefers memorials to the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
