Percy O. Alfred , 92, of 1127 North Washington in New Ulm. died Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm. A private family service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, December 3, at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial at a later date in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 - 7 p.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, LaVonne and Larry Christensen of Sleepy Eye, Helen and Bob Vogel, Joni and Dave Ahlness, all of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Mel and Dianne Alfred of New Ulm, Myron and Judy Alfred of Florence, Montana; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Willard Gluth of New Ulm; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene Alfred of Cornelius, Oregon, Imelda and Raymond Havemeier of New Ulm, and Pearl Alfred of Roselle, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene Alfred on January 18, 1981; sister, Mary Pitzner; brothers, Albert, Robert, Arthur, Edward, Harry and Charles Alfred; and a great-grandson, Adam John Wandler. Percy Oliver Alfred was born on October 16, 1912, in Stark Township, Brown County, to Henry A. and Frances (ShingShang) Alfred. On October 4, 1940, he married Irene Knapp at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. They farmed from 1944 to 1950 in Leavenworth Township and from 1950 to 1975 they farmed in Milford Township. They then moved to New Ulm. He enjoyed his yardwork and gardening. Professor Richard Buss , 74, of 110 North Highland in New Ulm, died Saturday, November 27, 2004, at his home. Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Friday, December 3, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Wayne Laitinen officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Friday. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling the arrangements. Richard is survived by a sister, Lois Ann Buss of LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carol Ligman; and by a brother, Charles Buss. Richard was born on March 20, 1930, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, to Edwin and Malinda (Broecker) Buss. Richard attended high school at the Northwestern Preparatory School graduating in 1948 and the Northwestern College in Watertown, Wisconsin, graduating in 1952. He attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Thiensville, Wisconsin, graduating in 1957 as a Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Minister. Professor was a teacher at the Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, South Dakota, for one year. He was a pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hettinger, North Dakota, Zion Lutheran Church in Reeder, North Dakota, and Christ Lutheran Church in Bison, South Dakota. In 1970, he came to DMLC as an English Instructor until 1995 when he retired. He was a member of the Hymnal Project for the Wisconsin Lutheran Synod involved in putting synod hymnals together. He was also a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Walter F. Gleisner , 87, of New Ulm, formerly of St. George, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at the Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at the St. George Catholic Church in St. George with Father John G. Berger and Father James Moran celebrating. Burial will be in the St. George Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Thursday; and from 7:30-8:30 a.m., Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Friday. The St. George Catholic Aid will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. both Thursday at the funeral home. Walter is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Bernard Bastian of North Mankato, Sandra and David Wittrock of Moorhead, and Diane and Joel Brandel of North Mankato; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Rita Gleisner of Gibbon, Gary and Linda Gleisner of New Ulm, Myron and Sharon Gleisner of Royalton, Roger and Lisa Gleisner of Chandler, Arizona, Mark and Claudia Gleisner of Gibbon, and Paul and Kari Gleisner of New Ulm; 33 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and by a sister-in-law, Mary Domeier of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcella Gleisner on February 19, 1992; a grandson, Steven Wittrock in 1968; and by a brother, Erwin Gleisner. Walter was born on March 25, 1917, in New Ulm to Joseph A. and Rosa (Franta) Gleisner. On May 26, 1941, he married Marcella Domeier at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. He was a lifetime farmer in West Newton Township, Nicollet County. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and playing cards. Walter was a member of the St. George Catholic Aid Council and the St. George Catholic Church in St. George. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the donor's choice. Leo G. Jandl , 88, of Fairfax, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at his home in Fairfax. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 3, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 -8 p.m., tonight, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6 p.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the Church on Friday. Arrangements are with the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax. Leo is survived by his daughters, Jacquelyn "Jackie" Marketon of Howard Lake, Virginia "Ginger" Rogness of Rochester and Kathleen "Kathy" Bianchi of Lafayette; sons, George Jandl of Eden Prairie and Jerome "Jerry" Jandl of Winona; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and sister, Helen Rieke of Fairfax. Leo George Jandl was born December 15, 1915, in West Bend, Iowa. He was the son of George and Rosa (Mathys) Jandl. Erna M. Lendt , 95, of Sleepy Eye, died on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at Sleepy Eye Care Center. Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye on Thursday, Dec. 2, from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Service will be held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church on Friday, Dec. 3, at 10:30 a.m. The Clergy will be Rev. Erna Marie Engholm was born on Aug. 27, 1909, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Becker) Engholm. She grew up in Iowa, later moving to Texas for a short time, returning to Iowa and then moved with her family to Sleepy Eye in 1921. She married Marvin J. Lendt on Sept. 8, 1931 in Sleepy Eye. The couple lived and farmed in Stark Township near Sleepy Eye until retiring. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Ladies of Grace, in Sleepy Eye. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, sewing, playing cards and gardening. She also enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Marvin Lendt of Sleepy Eye; her sons, Armin and wife Leona of Sleepy Eye, Melvin and wife Lois of Sleepy Eye; five grandchildren, Ricky, Randy and David Lendt, Linda Werner and Laurie Scherer; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Elmer and wife Florence Engholm, Edwin and wife Minnie Engholm and Ivan and wife Mava Engholm; and sister, Lucille Laube, all of Morgan. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Katherine Engholm; brothers, Orville Engholm, Waldo and wife Doris Engholm, brother-in-law, Harold Laube, and granddaughters Judy and Julie. Raymond 'Ray' J. Wellner , 103, of Fairfax, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax. Funeral services will be 11a.m., Friday, Dec. 3, at St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., today and 7:30 8:30 a.m., on Friday, at Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax; and will continue one hour before services at the church on Friday. He is survived by his wife, Adeline Wellner of Fairfax. Raymond J. Wellner was born September 29, 1901, in Cairo Township, Renville County, Minnesota. He was the son of Charles and Minnie (Bleick) Wellner.
