Justine 'Jessie' Palmer , 94, of Woodland Acres Nursing Home in Brainerd, formerly of St. George, died on December 5, 2004. Services will be at the St. George Catholic Church in St. George.on Friday, Dec. 10, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the St. George Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, on Thursday, Dec. 9, from 4 7 p.m. and Friday from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Friday. There will be a parish prayer service at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home. Justine is survived by her six children, Carol Crust of Brainerd; Verna Ingrassia of Monroe, Connecticut; Janyce Dickerson of Southbury, Connecticut; Ann Manzo of Sandy Hook, Connecticut; Leo Palmer of Lorain, Ohio and John Palmer of Warner Robins, Georgia; a sister Cal Verna Wilfahrt of New Ulm; and a brother Robert of Portland, Oregon; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and four great-greaT-grandchildren. Justine was preceded in death by her husband Maurice (Max) Palmer on December 5, 1997; her parents; John and Helena Volz; sisters, Winifred Brandel and Flavia Volz; and by brothers Tony, Mathew, George, Lawrence, Andy, Linus, Fred and Sylvester. Justine was born, March 16, 1910, in West Newton Township to John and Helena Volz. She attended District 15 Grade School, St. George Catholic School and Good Council Academy of Mankato. She married Maurice Palmer on January 3, 1933. They farmed in West Newton Township until l953 when they moved to Connecticut. They moved to Florida in 1969 and lived in Boca Raton until l980 when they moved back to Minnesota and lived in the Brainerd area. Justine was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd. When Jessie lived in the St. George area, she was a charter member of the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters and worked actively with their drill team. She also served as an adult leader for the West Newton 4-H Club. She was well known as the "Stationery Lady" and held many of the annual gatherings of the Minnesota Stationery Decorating Group at her home in Brainerd. She often shared her talent with local organizations and both Scout troops and school classes. She participated in her stationery decorating hobby for more than 40 years and corresponded with numerous stationery decorators in the United States, Canada and many foreign countries.
