Linus Bauer , 75, of 820 Summit Ave., New Ulm died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Fairfax Community Home. Private family services will be held Saturday at the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the city cemetery. Public visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the Firle Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Arlene of New Ulm; sons, Thomas Bauer and wife Kim of New Ulm, John Bauer and wife Lynda of Eagan; daughter, Mary and husband Michael Wokasch of McFarland, Wisc.; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; brothers Robert Bauer and wife Margaret of New Ulm, Stanley Bauer and wife Mary of Sleepy Eye, and Larry Bauer and wife Margaret of New Ulm; sisters, Alyce Fortwengler and husband Harold of New Ulm, Martha Saunders of Gaylord, and Donna Schumacher and husband Don of Wanda; sister-in-law, Helen Brust and husband Norman of New Ulm; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty in 1984; granddaughter, Hannah in 1993; and brother, James in 1961. He was born June 19, 1924,in Albin Township, Brown County, to Engelbert and Anna (Fischer) Bauer. He attended country schools. He married Arlene Annen in Searles on June 6, 1946. They farmed in Cottonwood Township until 1983 and then moved to New Ulm. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, Memorials are preferred to Alzheimer's research. Darlene Prahl, 61, of Arlington, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 199, at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley Township. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord. She is survived by her husband, Ivan; daughters and sins-in-law, Debra and Mike Betzing of St. Peter, Sandra and Pat Klaers of rural Arlington; son, David Prahl of Arlington; six grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Irvin and Mary Hardel of Norwood, Robert and Viola Hardel of Nicollet; sister-in-law, Charlotte Hardel of Arlington; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Herman Hardel. She was born Sept. 9, 1938, in Arlington to Robert H. and Anna (Otto) Hardel. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and Arlington High School. She married Ivan Prahl on June 28, 1958, at Zion Lutheran Church in Green Isle. They farmed in Kelso Township, Sibley County, until 1979 when they moved to a farm in Arlington Township. In 1999 they moved to Arlington. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, was active in the ALCW and taught Sunday School. She was a former member of the Kelso Township Home Extension and was a volunteer with the Rush River Rushers 4-H club. She was employed by Green Giant for many summers. Dolores Lundgren, 69, of 905 S. Washington St., New Ulm, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at her home. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the soldier's rest section of the city cemetery. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church. Millie Meyer, 82, of Springfield, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999 at Bethesda Lutheran Hospital, St. Paul. Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. Ruth Radloff , 86, of Hector, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector, with burial in the city cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. She is survived by her husband, Irvin Radloff of Hector; children, Carol Bulau and husband Kenneth of Nevis and Steven Radloff and wife Barbara of Little Falls; four grandchildren; sister Doris Schroeter of Leesburg, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews relatives, and friends She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Olive Ellinghuysen and Eva Krantz. She was born May 23, 1913, in Hector to Fred and Nellie Mae (Garner) Dodge.She graduated from Hector High School. She worked at Nelson Brothers in Hector. On Feb. 7, 1941, she married Irvin Radloff at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector. The couple farmed in Melville Township. She belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Leo G. Bodensteiner, 85, of Redwood Falls died on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Redwood Falls Hospital. Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4- 8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a KC rosary. Visitation will continue on 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of Redwood Falls; Leo Bodensteiner and wife Teri of Bellingham, Wash., James Bodensteiner and wife Mary of Maple Grove, Richard Bodensteiner and wife Julie of Red Wing, Kathryn Spanier and husband Mike of Prior Lake; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Irma Lalewicz of Buffalo, N.Y. and Terese Leishman of Alamo, Calif. He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. He was born on Jan., 4, 1914, in St. Lucas, Iowa, to John and Theresia (Drilling) Bodensteiner. He moved with his family to Adams, where he graduated from high school. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1938. He served in the Army during World War II. He was involved in five invasions including Oran, North Africa, Anzio, Italy and San Raphael, France. He retired from Army Reserves as Lt. Colonel after more than 30 years. On Oct. 22, 1955, he married Mary Ann Lyons in Madison, S.D. He worked for the Department of Agriculture first as attache' to the American Consulate General in Calcutta, India. He then went to Washington D.C. until 1958, and then to Lakefield where he also taught veterans ag. In 1960 they moved to Newcastle, Wyo. In 1961 they moved to St. James and then to Redwood Falls in 1966 where he was county supervisor for Farmers Home Administration. He retired in 1979. He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church. He was a 50- year member of Knights of Columbus where he had been Grand Knight. He belonged to the V.F.W., American Legion, and Elks for over 50 years. He was a member of the Redwood Falls Golf Club and Kiwanis Club. Gertrude Berndt, 91 of Sleepy Eye died Wednesday, Dec. 8. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the Home Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. She is survived by sisters, Evelyn Dratzke of Renville and Mildred Cooley of Mankato; sister-in-law, Dorothy Romberg of Sleepy Eye; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Bertha; husband, Alfred; brothers, Henry and Carl; and sisters Verna Saager, Gladys Tessmer, Lu Etta Coulter, Elsie Anderson and Elinor Petermann. She was born Jan. 30, 1908, in Home Township to Henry s.and Amelia (Junge) Romberg. She graduated from Sleepy Eye High School, and then moved to he East Coast to work. She married Alfred Berndton on Nov. 18, 1935 in Jersey City, New Jersey. They lived in New York City. In 1960, they moved to Waltham, Mass. In 1971 they moved to Sleepy Eye. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye and the Ladies Aid. John W. Hoffrogge, 84, of Bakersfield, Calif., died Nov. 20, 1990, at a Bakersfield convalescent home. A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sat. Dec. 18 at the former Lutheran Church in Revere. The Francis Hornack American Legion Post 582 will hold full military rites. Burial will take place in the Lamberton City Cemetery. He is survived by his sisters, Lena and husband Wilbert Dehne, Minnie and husband Glen Kronbach of Lamberton, Helka Gunder of Windom, Marie and husband Shirley Flesner of Tracy, Margaret and her husband Spencer Flesner of Phoenix, Ariz., and Elfrieda and husband Luverne Carlson of Garvin; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Willie, Remmer, Henry, and Herman; sister, Anna Pederson; and a sister and brother in infancy. He was born Oct. 5, 1915, in Calhoun County, Iowa, to Wilhelm and Johanna (Deling) Hoffrogge. The family moved to a farm in Johnsonville Township, Redwood County in 1918. In 1920 the family moved to a farm in North Hero township. He attended Revere schools. He worked as a farm laborer in Minnesota and South Dakota. He moved to Washington state where he worked as a mechanic. He moved to Huntington Beach, Calif., where he operated a gas station. He served in the Army during World War II. He returned to Minnesota after his discharge. He returned to California in 1974. Florence Gustafson, 88 of Hector died Dec. 7, 1999, at Renville County Hospital. Services are 2 p.m. today at Palmyra Covenant Church, Palmyra. Township, rural Hector with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is until the time of service Friday at the church. Hughes Funeral Home handled arrangements. She is survived by sister, Ruth Blad; brothers: Paul, Elmer, Edward and William Carlson; stepson,Leonard Gustafson and wife Eleanor; sister-in-law Vivian Carlson,: several nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elton Peterson and Ernest Gustafon; and brother, David Carlson. She was born May 3, 1911, at Litchville, N.D., to Emil and Esther (Ryberg) Carlson. In 1913 she moved with her parents to Palmyra Township, Renville County. She was married to Elton Peterson on Dec. 30, 1939. They farmed at Upsala, and in 1943 they moved to Minneapolis where they were custodians of the Bethesda Free Church. In 1953 they moved to Denver and were custodians of the Free Church. She also worked at the Hector Bakery and the Hector Variety Store. She married Ernest Gustafson on Oct. 25, 1974, and they lived in Willmar. They moved to Hector in 1997. She entered the Buffalo Lake Nursing Home in June of 1995. Alice Nordby, age 87 of Franklin, died on Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at her home. Arrangements are pending at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel In Fairfax. A complete obituary will appear in a later edition of The Journal. Burton Helriegel, 91, of Arlington,died Dec. 7, 1999, at Arlington Good Samaritan Center. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington with burial in the Arlington Public Cemetery. Visitation is noon - 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Fenske Funeral Home of Arlington is handling the arrangements. He is survived by daughter, Darleen and husband Norman Sell of St. Louis, Mo., sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Clarence Hildebrandt of Brainerd; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Louise on Feb. 24, 1987. He was born May 15, 1908, in Dryden Township, rural Arlington to Edward and Nellie (Beatty) Helriegel. He married Louise Wiese on Nov. 18, 1937, at Zion United Church of Christ in Le Sueur. They farmed in rural Arlington until 1974 when they moved to Arlington.
