Gertrude Berndt, 91 of Sleepy Eye died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the Home Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by sisters: Evelyn Kratzke of Renville and Mildred Cooley of Mankato; sister-in-law Dorothy Romberg of Sleepy Eye; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Bertha, husband Alfred, brothers: Henry and Carl; sisters Verna Saager, Gladys Tessmer, Lu Etta Coulter, Elsie Anderson, and Elinor Petermann.
She was born Jan. 30, 1908 in Home Township to Henry S.and Amelia (Junge) Romberg. She graduated from Sleepy Eye High School. Soon after she moved to the East Coast and worked at varius jobs. She married Alfred Berndt Nov. 18, 1935 in Jersey City, New Jersey. The couple made their home in New York City, and in 1960 moved to Waltham, Mass. In 1971 they moved to Sleepy Eye. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye and the Ladies Aid.
Glenn "Flea" Christensen, 76 of New Ulm, died Friday afternoon, Dec. 10 at the Olivia Nursing Home. Services are pending with the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Alice Nordby, 87, of Franklin, died at her residence in Franklin, on Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Franklin, with burial in the Franklin City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her daughter, Marlys Wolf of Lexington; sons: Dale Nordby and his wife, Alice of Princeton, John Nordby and his wife, Mary of Willmar, Charles Nordby and his wife, Arlene of Lamberton;10 grandchildren, six great- grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Almen and her husband, John of Kerkhoven; sister-in-law, Judith Nordby of Minneapolis; nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Spencer, in 1991, brother Cyrus L. Selbel, and a brother in infancy.
She was born Jan. 9, 1912, in Martinsburg Township, Renville County to John and Ella (Schultz) Seibel. She grew up in Renville county, where she worked on her family's farm. She married Spencer Nordby Sept. 21, 1937, at the Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church parsonage. The couple farmed in the rural Franklin area until they retired in 1979, and moved into Franklin. She was a long time member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church In Franklin, where she was active In the Ladies' Aid.
Marie Heerdt, 76, of Hector, died Thursday December 9, 1999 at the Renville County Hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector with burial in the Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by husband Harold Heerdt of Hector; children, Karen Hunter and her husband Howard of Rosemount, Diane VonBerge and her husband Robert of Glencoe and John Heerdt of Nevis; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Marcel Mathison and his wife Lois of Hector; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was born Oct. 15, 1923, to Carl and Dena (Torgerson) Mathison. She grew up in Martinsburg Township and attended rural school. On Oct. 30, 1948, she married Harold Edward Heerdt at the Palmyra Lutheran Church. They made their home in the Watertown-Mayer area. She was a cook in the Watertown-Mayer School for many years. She also worked for Tonka Toys in Mound. After retiring, they returned to Hector. She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was active with W.E.L.C.A. and with the Quilters.
Sandra Gregg, 54, of Chaska, died Friday December 10, 1999 at St. Gertrude's Health Care Center in Shakopee.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church in Shakopee, with burial in Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Bertas Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by husband, Randy; daughters, Jennifer and Amy, all of Chaska; parents, Bernard and Adeline Lange of Sleepy Eye; sister, Shirleyann and husband Robin Talle of Blue Earth; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Sandra was born Oct. 19, 1945 in Sleepy Eye to Bernard and Adeline (Orth) Lange. She attended St. John's Parochial School and graduated from Sleepy Eye Public School. On March 28, 1971, Sandra married Randall Gregg at St. John's Lutheran Church. She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and was a resident of Chaska since May 1976. She had been employed at Hornblower and Weeks, Hemphill, Noyes Stock Brockerage in Minneapolis for 13 years.
Dolores Lundgren, 69, of 905 S. Washington St., died Thursday Dec. 9, at her home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial to follow in the soldier's rest section of the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her husband Dale of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Shirley Lundgren of Thief River Falls, Brian and Jennie Lundgren of Norwood, Colin and Wendy Lundgren of Shorewood; daughters and sons-in-law Patrice and Joe Gonzales, Tamara and David Neidecker, all of New Ulm; 10 grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Reva Snell of Brainerd, Arthur, Jr. and Joyce Snell of Appleton, Wis., Errol and Inge Snell Olympia Wash., Gerald and Kathy Snell Gevda Springs, Kan.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Francis Koering, June and John Erickson and her husband, all of Brainerd, Sharon and Ernie Kitsmiller of Fargo, N.D., Darlene and Tom Towle of Owatonna; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was born Aug. 23, 1930 in Trommald, to Arthur and Mable (Bloom) Snell. She attended school in Brainerd, graduating from Brainerd High School. She married Dale Lundgren Feb. 5, 1951 in Brainerd. They made their home in Los Angeles, Calif. They later returned to the Brainerd area for a time before moving to Chicago, Ill. in 1971. While there, she worked for Pan American Plant Company as an inventory control supervisor. The family moved to New Ulm in 1979 where she was employed by Union and Sioux Valley Hospitals for 17 years, retiring in July, 1998. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm..
Frances Hassinger, 67, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at the Redwood Falls Hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Nelson Home in Redwood Falls, and, one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her husband Roger; daughters Casey and Poppy both of Redwood Falls; sister Marcia and her husband Arvid Dittbenner of Plymouth; a nephew, two nieces, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was born Feb. 13, 1932 to Bert and Minnie (Runck) Timm. She lived in Charleston Township, Redwood County until moving with her parents to Redwood Falls in 1938. She graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1949 and from vocational school in 1950. She was employed at Cairns Clinic in Redwood Falls for nine years and at the Redwood Office Supply for many years.
She married Roger Hassinger at the Methodist Church on March 19, 1951. They spent their entire married life in Redwood Falls. Fran was active over the years in Brownie and Girl Scouts, Shriner's Children Hospital Auxiliary and teaching release time. She served on a flower committee and a food committee to raise funds and also on the board of directors. She was elected to the school board in 1977 and served for nine years. She had served with the Redwood County Share the Spirit for 14 years.
Mildred Meyer, 82, of Springfield, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at Bethesda Lutheran Hospital, St. Paul.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye with burial in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Springfield.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. on Monday at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her husband Arnold Meyer of Springfield, daughter Carol Kruschke of Belle Plaine; sons Steven and Mickey Meyer of Sleepy Eye, David and Carol Meyer of Granite Falls; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren; brother Gene Blocker of Ely; sisters Ramona Hansen of Sturgis, S.D., LaVonne and Pete Bly of Holland, Mich., Naomi and Herb Snegosky of Fairfield, Calif., JoAnn and Ralph Class of Apple Valley, Marlene and Gil Flaig of Fridley; sister-in-law Arlene and Sig Fruehling of Tulsa, Okla.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Rosalyn Toich.
She was born on July 16, 1917 to Louis and Edna (Nelson) Blocker in Brown County. She married Arnold Elton Meyer on Jan. 5, 1940 at St. John's Norwegian Lutheran Church in Springfield. Millie was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye since 1939.
Sylvester Braunger, 90, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Morgan with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson Funeral Home in Morgan -- with a parish prayer service 7 p.m. -- and Monday 8:30 - 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Morgan; children Karen Zimmerman, Redondo Beach, Calif., Nancy and Bruce Shiffler, Smithfield, Va., Gregory Sylvester and Juliet Braunger of Sunland, Calif., and Gwendolyn and Robert Peterson of Sylmar, Calif.; step-sons and step-daughters Connie DeWitte of Washington, D.C., Ronald and Judith West of Burnsville, Jeffrey West of Sparks, Nev., Donna and Steve Jorgenson of Crystal, Diane and Charles Jacobson of Minneapolis;and Richard and Linda West of Delano; one grandson; one granddaughter, one great-grandson, niner step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, a daughter, a brother, nine sisters.
He was born Aug. 20, 1909 at Wesley, Iowa, to Sylvester and Agnes (Stanek) Braunger. He moved to Minnesota with his family as a young child. He attended St. Michael's school and Morgan Public School. 1927-37 he lived in Sioux City, Iowa working in a meat market, and in Windom as a meat cutter then returning to Morgan where he spent the rest of his life. He was the manager of Tempel's Store in Morgan during the World War II years; and a salesman for Armour and Company 1947-74 when he retired. He married Margaret Moede Dec. 26, 1933 at Windom. She died in 1979. He married Mary Alice LeBlanc West on April 20, 1985 in Morgan.
