Serene Hagevold, 97, of Franklin, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Woo Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday at St, Luke's Lutheran Church in Franklin with burial in the Franklin Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the services at church. She is survived by her daughters, Rosemary Larson and husband George of Dunnellon, Fla., Diane Larson of Franklin, and Linda Garbers and her husband Marvin of Bloomington; son Jerry Hagevold of Wheaton, Ill., six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Bonita Sherman of the Sunwood Good Samaritan Center in Redwood Falls; brother, Harley Johnson and his wife Alice of St. Anthony and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; son John; brothers, Kenneth, Halfdan, and Miles Johnson; sisters, Norella Sather and Gladys Johnson. She was born Aug. 22, 1902, in Franklin to Gustav and Sarah Martha (Rieke) Johnson. She married Melvin Hagevold Feb. 11, 1931, in Franklin. They lived in Franklin. She taught in rural schools and worked as a nurse. She also worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Brown. She worked at the Franklin Nursing Home for more than 12 years. She lived in the Centennial Apartments in Franklin until she entered the Wooddale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls in August 1995. She was a longtime member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Franklin, where she was active with the Ladies Aid. Ralph Dunn , 61, 1106 N. Broadway, New Ulm, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. Burial will be held at a later date in Sheldon, Iowa. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. Military honors will be conducted by the New Ulm veterans organizations immediately following the service. A complete obituary will appear in Friday's edition. Ruby Coulson, 73, Jeffers, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at her home. Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Jeffers with burial in the Jeffers Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday and 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home in Jeffers, and from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the church Saturday. Marlowe Kelly, 78 of Madelia, died Wednesday at the Madelia Community Hospital Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia and one hour before the service at the church. A complete notice will appear in a later edition. Dorothy C. (Dora) Phelps, 95, of St. Peter, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at St. Peter Health Care Center in St. Peter. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with in the Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation is one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Klein Funeral Home in St. Peter is handling arrangements. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; a special niece Delores and her husband Marlyn Wendt of Amboy; and a special friend, Ruthe Moore of Mankato. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1964; four brothers; two sisters. She was born April 3, 1904, in Elmore, to Paul and Caroline (Footh) Weise. She attended school in Elmore. As a teenager, Dorothy lived in Bernadotte and worked at the St. Peter State Hospital. On Nov. 16, 1928, she married Verne Phelps at Gaylord. They lived in various places in the Twin Cities area, including St. Louis Park. She worked at Dayton's in downtown Minneapolis as a salesclerk. She edited films for Columbia Pictures. She was a member of the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Ladies Aid. Leona M. Zarn, 88, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, Dec. 14. 1999, in Minneapolis. Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30 a.m.-noon Friday at e Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, and at the church one hour prior to the service. She is survived by a daughter, Gloria and husband Dale Miller of St. Paul Park; sons, Daryl and wife Bonitta Zarn of Finlayson, Lannie and wife Bonnie Zarn of Sleepy Eye; Leon "Red" and wife Sandy Zarn of Sleepy Eye; a foster son, Melvin Brown of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Gladys Zarn of Sleepy Eye and Ollie Radloff of New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, and a brother, Elmer. She was born Nov. 2, 1911, in Milford Township, Brown County, to Ernest and Anna (Gerholz) Radloff. She attended school in Milford Township and worked on the family farm. She married George Zarn on June 18, 1935, in New Ulm. They lived in Sleepy Eye. She worked for Tony Downs Foods in St. James and Del Monte in Sleepy Eye. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Margaret 'Marge' Gigstad, 81, formerly of Wood Lake and Marshall, died Dec. 13, 1999, at Tracy Nursing Home. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church in Marshall with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Hamilton-Birk Funeral Home in Marshall and continues one hour before services Friday at the church. She is survived by sons, ValGene and wife Jeanie Gigstad of Chitherall, and Ricky Gigstad of Spokane, Wash.; daughters, Carol and husband David Spartz of Dublin, Ohio, Nola Johnson of Minneapolis, Nancy and husband Terry Rewerts of St.George, Kan., and Cheryl and husband Don Vogl of Walnut Grove; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers Dennis Warnke and wife Mary of Wood Lake, and Lenard Warnke and wife Collette of Cottage Grove; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Harold on Nov. 28, 1965; parents; two sisters; and seven brothers. She was born May 11, 1918 near Wood Lake to Adolph and Emma (Behr) Warnke. She married Harold J. Gigstad on April 16, 1935. They lived in the Wood Lake and Marshall areas until 1965 when they moved to New Ulm. She worked at 3M after her husband's death and retired after 14 years. She later returned to Marshall. Vivian Axenty, 87, of Sleepy Eye died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Sleepy Eye Care Center. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. Windschitl, 101, of Sleepy Eye, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Sleepy Eye Care Center. Arrangements are pending with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. Vincent Schaffer, 83, of St. James, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at St. James Health Services. Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, St. James. Frank Schweinfurter, 90, of rural Redwood Falls, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Wood Dale Nursing Home, Redwood Falls. Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4:30-8:30 p.m; Friday at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with a KC rosary at 7:30 p.m. followed by a parish prayer service; and continues 8:30-10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
