   George Gustafson, 76, of Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Divine Providence Community Home, Sleepy Eye.
   Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-9 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, and one hour before services at the church.
   He is survived by his sons, Gary and wife Doreen of Edwardsville, Ill., Dennis and wife Cindy of New Ulm, Roger and wife Denise of Stacy, Wayne and wife DeAnn of Owasso, Okla. and Richard of New Ulm; daughter, Phyllis and husband Steve Gentz of Lindstrom; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred and husband Cliff Albright of Yuma, Ariz., and Evelyn Toth of Spokane, Wash.; and cousins, nieces, nephews, and brothers-in-law.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois in 1994; son, Glenn; and brother Otto.
   He was born Dec. 7, 1924, in Sleepy Eye, to Oscar and Anna (Winschstadt) Gustafson. He attended school in Sleepy Eye. He entered the United States Army in June 1944, serving during World War II until his discharge in July 1946. He married Lois Guhlke in Sleepy Eye on April 24, 1948. They lived in Sleepy Eye. He worked in road construction as an equipment operator. They later operated Gus' Bar, Sleepy Eye. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye Golf Club, 49ers, and the VFW.

   Robert Brandel, 50, of Wayzata, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at home.
   Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church, Wayzata.
   Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lee Funeral Home, Wayzata.

   Willard J. Bushard, 82, of Portland, Ore., died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Care Center East, Portland.
   Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Birgitta Catholic Church, Linnton, Ore., with burial in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
   He is survived by sons, Willard of Fernley, Nev., and Thomas of Portland; daughter, Patricia Mason of Pacifica, Calif.; sisters, Alice Payne of Kansas City, Mo., and Lillian Meder of New London; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce.
   Hustad Funeral Home, Portland, is in charge of arrangements.
   Memorials are preferred to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1325, Portland.
   He was born Dec. 2, 1918, in New Ulm. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as an adhesive manufacturing plant manager until his retirement in 1985. He married Joyce Selle on July 31, 1940. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church. He had lived in Portland since 1970.

   Curtis Batzlaff, 39, of St. James died Dec. 15, 2000, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. James. Burial will be in Sanborn City Cemetery, Sanborn.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James. Visitation also will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.
   He is survived by daughters, Jennifer Lynn Batzlaff of Owatonna and Heather A. Batzlaff of Mountain Lake; son, Jonathon K. Batzlaff of St. James; brothers, Richard and wife, Elaine Batzlaff of Plymouth, Warren and wife, Deb Batzlaff of Courtland, Gordon Batzlaff of New Ulm, Rodney and wife, Renee Batzlaff of Brooklyn Center, Brad Batzlaff of Crystal; sisters, Virginia and husband, Jeff Peterson of Indianapolis, Ind., Janet and husband, John Friedrichsen of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Emily and husband, Kevin Christenson of Hanska; several nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his father and an infant sister, Susan.
   He was born July 13, 1961, in Springfield, to Gilbert and Marcia (Goehring) Batzlaff. He grew up in Sanborn and later in Comfrey, where he graduated from high school in 1979. He married Kathy Wohlschlager in 1983. He lived in Butterfield for a time, where he worked fro Butterfield Foods and then moved to St. James, where he worked for Runge Trucking and Westin Automotive. He became disabled in 1999. He served many years in the Army National Guard. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. James.

   Bryan Jenniges , 23, of Bloomington, and formerly of Redwood Falls, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls, with burial in the city cemetery.
   Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls.
   He is survived by his fiancee, Anjela Amberg; parents, Kenneth and LeAnn Jenniges; sister, Jennifer and fiance Chris Brandt; brother, Andrew and friend Lisa Seavert; grandmothers, Lorraine Fennern of Wanda, Lorraine Jenniges of Wanda; and other relatives.
   He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Gilbert Jenniges and Leon Fennern.
   He was born April 29, 1977, in Le Sueur, to Kenneth and LeAnn (Fennern) Jenniges. He graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1995 and Minnesota West in 1998 with an electrician's degree. He worked as an electrician for E.P.S. in Chanhassen.

   John Schwieger, 65, of 700 Knight Street in St. Peter died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, at Central Health Center in Le Center.
   Services are 2 p.m. today at Belgrade Avenue Methodist Church in Mankato with burial in the Morgan Cemetery in Morgan Township, Franklin County, Iowa.
   He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Rob Whipple of Indianola, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law, Robin and Susan Schwieger of Nicollet, Brad and Dawn Schwieger of Williams, Iowa, Dan Schwieger and Earl Schwieger both of Ames, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra Schwieger and an infant son.
   He was born March 20, 1935, in Hampton, Iowa to Howard and Yvonne (Kempthorne) Schwieger. He grew up in the Dows area on the family farm. He attended Dows schools and took courses in agriculture at Iowa State University. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He married Sandra Stephenson on Aug. 3, 1957. He farmed in the Alden, Iowa, area until 1985. After a stay at Iowa State University, they managed motels for Motel 6 until purchasing Americana Motel in Grand Rapids, Minn., which he owned until 1992 when he moved to Nicollet. After being diagnosed with ALS in 1999, he moved to assisted living at The Wilds of Sand Prairie in St. Peter. He moved to the health care center in October. He was a member of Belgrade Avenue Methodist Church in Mankato.

   Diane Brand Carley, 50, of Fargo, N.D., died early Sunday in a Fargo hospital of cancer.
   Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Fargo with burial in the cemetery in Casselton, N.D.
   Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo.
   She is survived by her husband, Cole Carley; son, Christopher, in Hollywood, Calif.; daughter, Alison, of Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa; brothers and sisters: Phyllis (Mrs. Gene) Schmitz, Marlys Drill, Robert Brand, Donald Brand, Curtis Brand, David Brand, Marvin Brand, Joleen (Mrs. Warren) Jorgensen, all of New Ulm, LaDonna Kissner and Doris (Mrs. Wesley) Guemmer, both of St. Cloud, Carol (Mrs. Jim) Kruggel of Winthrop and Kenneth Brand of Glenview, Ill.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Lowell and Gerald Brand.
   She was born Jan. 7, 1950, in New Ulm to Joseph and Sophia (Kuehn) Brand. She graduated in 1968 from Cathedral High School in New Ulm and in 1972 from St. Benedict's University in St. Joseph. She married Cole Carley June 17, 1972, in New Ulm. They lived in Devils Lake, N.D. for three years and then settled in Fargo. She was a teacher in the West Fargo school district. She was an active member of Holy Spirit parish.

   Loren Batalden ­ The time of services for Loren Batalden has been changed to 1:30 p.m. today at Highwater Lutheran Church, rural Lamberton.
   Sturm Funeral Home is in charge of services.

   Chrystene Mae Gaffney, 82, of Arlington died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, in Arlington.
   Services are 2:30 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Arlington. Burial will be in Arlington Public Cemetery.
   Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. Fenske Funeral Homes, Arlington, are handling the arrangements.
   She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen and husband, Dwight Neale of Rogers; sons, Lon Gaffney of St. Peter, Gregg Gaffney of Austin, Phillip Gaffney of Canon City, Colo.; brother, Bob and wife, Betty Gibbs of St. Peter; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Burt, a daughter, Wanda, and sisters, Helen and Margaret.
   She was born Jan. 4, 1918, in St. Peter, to Homer and Evelyn (Neale) Gibbs. She lived most of her life in St. Peter and Arlington. She was a graduate of St. Peter High School and Minnesota State College. She was an employee of St. Peter Regional Treatment Center and an elementary school teacher at Arlington. She married Burton Gaffney on May 10, 1941, in St. Peter. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and Post Presidents Club of St. Peter, a former member of the MEA and NEA, a member of the Arlington Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Arlington Mixers and the Garden Club.
   Memorials are preferred to United Methodist Church, Arlington in lieu of flowers.
