   Sylvester J. "Deacon Sy" Sauer, 70, of St. Peter died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at his home.
   A Mass of Christian Resurrection is 10 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Catholic Church in St. Peter with burial in Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter with military honors.
   Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Catholic Church with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
   Arrangements are handled by St. Peter Funeral Home.
   He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of St. Peter; sons, Richard and wife Laurie Sauer of Duluth, Timothy and wife Cindy Sauer of Rosemount; daughters, Nancy and husband Dr. Robert Kaczrowski of Luverne, Carol and husband Jack Vande of St. Peter, Debora Sauer of Vermillion, Colleen and husband David Bell of St. Peter, Katheryn and husband James Besst of Coon Rapids; and 20 grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by his parents.
   He was born Oct. 17, 1929, in St. Cloud to Sylvester J. Sauer, Sr. and Gertrude M. Karls. He graduated from Technical High School in St. Cloud. He married Mary Ann Gaida on June 14, 1952, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. He received B.S. degree in business and mathematics from St. Cloud State. He served in the U.S. Army in the Occupation Forces in Germany from 1951-1953. From 1954-1964 he taught mathematics and business at Warroad High School. He obtained a M.S. degree in counseling from Bemidji State College. From 1964-1985 he was student counselor at St. Peter High School. He attended diaconate training at St. John's University from 1973-1975 and was ordained as permanent deacon in the New Ulm Diocese in 1975. He was the second deacon ordained in Minnesota and the first in New Ulm Diocese. He has served as deacon for St. Peter and St. Mary's parishes from 1975 until present. In 1985, he retired from education. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th degree; Retired Educators Association of Minnesota; Mankato Retired Educators Association; past member of Minnesota School Counselors Association; paster member of Minnesota Association for Counseling and Development; St. Peter American Legion Post No. 39; charter member of the St. Peter Police Reserve; charter member of St. Peter Ambulance Service; and past commissioner of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority of St. Peter.

   Bernice Kastner, 84, of Lamberton, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Springfield Medical Center.
   Arrangements are pending with Sturm Funeral Home, Lamberton.

   Anthony "Tony" M. Schroepfer, 92, of Sleepy Eye died Dec. 25, 1999, in Sleepy Eye.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a K.C. and Catholic Aid rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home today.
   He is survived by daughters, LaDonna and husband Alphonse Mathiowetz of Comfrey, Theresia and husband Ernest Kretsch of New Ulm, Sylvia Braun of Sleepy Eye, Kathleen and husband Richard Marcus of Coeur D' Alene, Idaho; sons, Rob and wife Linda, Dick and wife Lindy, and Anthony Jr. and wife Shirley, all of Sleepy Eye; son-in-law, David Jensen of Bloomington; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Angie Sturm of Springfield and Frieda Haas of Sleepy Eye; sisters-in-law Agnes Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye and Valaria Simmet of Lafayette.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Brigitta; daughter, Barbara Jensen; three grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Louisa Zwaschka, Norbert and Leo Schroepfer, and Martha Windschitl; brothers-in-law, Henry Haas and Mike Sturm.
   He was born July 17, 1907, in Albin Township, Brown County, to Anton and Theresia (Prokosch) Schroepfer, where he grew up and attended District 33 school. He farmed in Albin Township. He married Brigitta Soukup on Sept. 7, 1931, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. They farmed until 1969 when they moved to Sleepy Eye. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Aid Association and Sleepy Eye Senior Citizens.

   Willard F. Thenemann, 79, of Winthrop, died on Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Arlington Municipal Hospital.
   Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p. m today and 7:30-8:30 a. m. Wednesday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral chapel. Visitation will continue one hour before services Wednesday at the church.
   He is survived by sisters, Doris Schuft and her husband, Wilfred of Winthrop, Gladys Woller and her husband, Vernon of Winthrop, and Val Youngblom of St. Peter; sister-in-law, Edna Thenemann of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Viola Gordon, Elizabeth Nelson and Ruth West; and brothers, Fredrick and Ervin Thenemann.
   He was born on Sept. 14, 1920, in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, to Henry J. and Marie (Bubolz) Thenemann. He grew up and attended country school in Bismarck Township. He farmed with his brother Fred in Affsborg Township, Sibley County, until 1978, when they retired and moved into Winthrop.He was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop.

   Herbert W. Wolle, 81, of Mankato and formerly of Lewisville and Madelia, died Saturday Dec. 25, 1999, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
   Services are 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mankato with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lewisville.
   Visitation is one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or to donor's choice. Arrangements are handled by the Mankato Mortuary.
   He is survived by his wife, Helen Wolle of Mankato; son, Neal Wolle of Fargo, N.D.; daughters, Charlotte Greamba. and her husband Frank of Plymouth, Kerri Hanson and her husband Paul of Stewartville; seven grandchildren; sister, Alma Leng of Truman; two brothers, Erwin Wolle of St. James, W Gordon Wolle of South Branch; nieces, nephews and cousins.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother.
   He was born Oct. 5, 1918, to John and Margarethe (Karau) Wolle in Lewisville. He graduated from St. James High School. He entered the United States Army on March 5, 1942, and served in the Pacific Theater during World War Il. He married Helen Ruth Davis on Feb. 1, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville. He farmed in the Lewisville and Madelia area. He worked for 15 years at Kraft Foods in New Ulm before retiring. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Mankato and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville and Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia. He was also a member of the Lewisville American Legion.

   Edward Garbrecht, 85, of rural St. Peter died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Franklin Healthcare Center.
   Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial to follow in the Lutheran Cemetery, New Ulm.
   Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church. Firle Funeral Home of New Ulm is handling the arrangements.

   Milly M. Stephan, 74, of Long Prairie and formerly of St. James, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre.
   Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Bertha.
   Visitation is 3-8 p.m. today at Stephan-Stein Funeral Home in Long Prairie.
   She is survived by her husband Myron; children, Marsha and her husband Erv Huwe of Winthrop, Brenda Warner of Minneapolis, and Rhonda Kleven of Sauk Centre; four grandchildren; brother, Emil Schroeder of Leesville, S.C.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband; sisters, Malinda Schroeder, Elaine Schroeder, Ruth Sheldon, Dorothy Kraffenhoft, and brother Elroy Schroeder.
   She was born Jan.11, 1925, in Butterfield to Emil and Annetta (Senf) Schroeder. She grew up in Butterfield and worked for the railroad in St. James, and then for the Federal Land Bank Association in St. James. She married Arthur P. Steinbert on July 11, 1954. He died March 31, 1983. In 1975, the couple moved to Sauk Centre where she worked at St. Michael's Hospital as an accounting clerk until 1978. They moved to Long Prairie where she worked as a deputy clerk at the Long Prairie City Hall until retiring in 1990. She married Myron Stephan on July 16, 1994 in Long Prairie. She lived with her daughter Rhonda in Sauk Centre due to declining health since July 1999.

   Orris Buboltz, 76, of Buffalo Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Olivia Healthcare Center.
   Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township, rural Fairfax with burial in the church cemetery.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
   He is survived by his wife, VaLoris Buboltz, of Buffalo Lake, son, Ricky Buboltz and wife Karen, of Buffalo Lake; daughter Candy Maio and friend Tom Koopman of Buffalo Lake; six grandchildren; brothers: Harris Buboltz and wife Betty, of Hector; Veirl Buboltz of Hector; Harlan Buboltz of St. Louis Park; sister, Iona Gruenhagen of Gibbon; mother-in-law, Orda Dahl of Franklin; sister-in-law, Adeline Buboltz of Hector; and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cindy; sister, and brother, Eldon.
   He was born Sept. 2, 1923, in Wellington Township, Renville County, to Helmuth and Ella (Berger) Buboltz. He grew up in Wellington Township and attended Emanuel Lutheran Parochial School. He married VaLoris Dahl on Sept. 12, 1951, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Franklin.The couple lived and farmed in Grafton Township for 32 years. and in 1983 moved into Buffalo Lake. He became a resident of Olivia Healthcare Center since April in 1997. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church.

   Joseph Pivonka, 70, of Rochester and formerly of New Ulm, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
   A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Chatfield Lutheran Church in Chatfield. There will be no visitation.
   Riley Funeral Home in Rochester is handling the arrangements.
   He is survived by his wife, Donna; three sons; three daughters; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
   He graduated from New Ulm High School in 1947. He was also employed by Kraft Foods from 1960-73.

   Marlin M. Langhorst, 78, of Shakopee, formerly of rural Courtland. died, Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at his home in Shakopee.
   Services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church in Shakopee with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m.Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Christ Lutheran Church in Shakopee.

   Keith F. Sing, 74, of Gaylord and formerly of Gibbon and Brainerd, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at his home.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord with burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Osceola Township, Bird Island.
   Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fenske Family Funeral Home in Gaylord and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
   He is survived by his wife, Doris of Gaylord; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Deborah of Moorhead, Ian and Kimberly of Gaylord, and Sawn of Burnsville; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Allen Pelvit of Ottumwa, Iowa; sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Leland Buhman of Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Mary Sing of Bird Island, and Marlys Sing of Lake Lillian; and nine grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larice Sing in 1977; daughter; and brothers, Delbert and Lloyd Sing.
   He was born in Osceola Township, Renville County, to Clarence and Lillian (Kromer) Sing on Nov. 22, 1925. He graduated from Bird Island High School in 1944. He entered the U.S. Army on March 19, 1945, and was discharged Feb. 23, 1946. He married Doris Alh on April 24, 1949, at United Methodist Church in Hector. He and his wife farmed at Bird Island and Gibbon area until 1985 when they moved to the Brainerd area where he was employed by the Brainerd School district for 10 years. They moved to Gaylord in 1997. He was a member of the Brainerd VFW, Gaylord Legion. He was a former Gibbon Lion, Legion Post Commander, council member of Augustana Lutheran Church and was custodian at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Delfin "Schmidtty" Schmidt, 75, of Osakis, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at Douglass County Hospital in Alexandria.
   Services were Monday at the Osakis Lutheran Church.
   He is survived by his wife, Olja Schmidt; children, Jim Schmidt of Sauk Centre, Darwin and Cherry Schmidt of Albany, Cindy and Craig Soltis of Royalton, Kathy and Jeff Waltzing of Crystal, Brenda and Art Daugherty of St. James; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Linda Schmidt and a grandson, Michael Schmidt.
   He was born Feb. 22, 1924, to August and Lydia (Altenburg) Schmidt in Springfield. He attended school in Springfield and then began farming. He married Olga Kreft on Oct. 12, 1947 in Gibbon. They moved to rural Osakis in 1953 and continued farming until 1960. He then went to work as a truck driver for Macey Construction of West Union. In 1971 they moved to Osakis. He retired in 1983.
