CLEVELAND (AP) - Arson destroyed a cab-company garage on the city's east side Monday, lighting up the early morning sky but causing no injuries, authorities said.
Smoke rising from the AmeriCab garage could be seen from miles away.
A cab parked outside the building caught fire, igniting the building that held six cabs and the company's office, said Brent Collins, an assistant city fire chief. The building was destroyed.
Assistant Fire Chief David McNeilly said Monday night the fire had been ruled arson but released no other details about the investigation.
Four people inside the building got out safely after a mechanic banged on the door around 6:15 a.m. and told them the building was on fire, cab dispatcher Vicki Taylor said. Several propane tanks inside the building exploded.
A few cars outside the garage also burned. Firefighters worked to keep a large propane gas storage tank outside the building from exploding, Collins said.
